Hi All,

I accidentally plugged in the power cable of another external casing into mine and seems like the 12v came though the ground and my drive is completely dead now!! :(
I'm hoping a logic board replacement would fix it and hope it hasn't done any permanent damage to my data.

I'm looking for a logic board of this model:

Model: WD800JD-55MUA1
DMS: HSBANTJCA
Date: 20-OCT-2005
Logic Board nos: 2061-701335-A00 AH XW 2Q31 L1T5 7 0003160 6163

Can you upload a detailed photo of the component side?

What is the failure symptom?

The problem with my HD is that it can not be detected by the PC when turned
on, even if the disck are moving properly and there are not odd sound.
The HD is from a external USB box and it contains my backup, I opened the
box and tested the HD using two other IDEtoUSB adapters, but as I described
above, it is not detected by the PC.
So I thought that it could be a PCB problem, since, as I said, the disks are
moving properly and there are not strange mechanical sounds.
However, the PCB, from a visual examination, doesn't have any
damage/burn/defect, so the problem could be elsewhere...
I just want to add that the box has been tested with two different PC and in
many USB port.

The rule of thumb appears to be that, if a drive spins up but is not detected, or if it tries to spin up, then the board is probably OK. Instead the problem is most likely with the head/disc assembly (HDA).

If, OTOH, the drive makes no noise at all, and does not attempt to spin up, then the board is probably faulty.

When replacing the board, be prepared to transplant the 8-pin serial EEPROM chip from patient to donor. This is because the EEPROM stores drive specific calibration data determined at the factory.

The following article will help you identify the components:
