Hi,

We have few quantum Lct 10, All these hdd have a problem that after working for around 1 hour they start making a noise from the media and the ID TDA5247HT start getting heating up. If we continue running the drive the IC burns off.
If we stop the drive and run it after 1hr, it again works for some time and than same problem comes up again.

Can Anybody help us out.

Hi

The problem with the LCT series of Quantum, is in fact the TDA5247HT. This is the motor controller. You are lucky becouse at least you have your drive working for an hour, but the normal sympthon is that the drive stops working. You need to replace the PCB with an identical one, and the drive will work again.

Hi,

Thanks a lot, but if we replace the PCB the problem remains the same, the new pcb also works for the same time.

Can we replace the Motor Controller IC with any other equivalent so that the problem is not there.

For lct series from quantum, the only resolve is the replacement of TDA5247 (better PANASONIC) with a new one or a equivalent chip. You can trie resolder but is no guaranty that this will really improve the situation (the termic shock may be good for the chip).

My opinion about this tda5247-PHILIPS is that they are very bad fabricated, even the new chip (that I have, PHILIPS) ar ~40% BAD , so my conclusion is that the chip is destroyed by the time past due the fabrication not by the hours of functionality.
Anyone with similar experience please replay!!!!

can be either one, first swap PCB to a known good one, if it remains the same then U've got bad luck (and head).
