Hello folks, I have a Seagate Blackarmor NAS that was used for backing up old files in our company.
We had three 4TB Seagate hard drives that have been configured as a span, and one of them died (the last one). I've tried to recover the volume by replacing the disk and accessing the NAS configuration page, but it failed. Now I'm trying to recover the data from the other two disks, but I don't have much knowledge in data recovery, so I'm trying to learn how can I do it.

I've scanned the first drive on the Wodershare RecoverIt software, and it can read the data, but the filenames are messed up. Searching about this, I've found that it's because the directory info could not be found. Is there a way to recover this info?

SPAN(JOBD, Composite volume) - Cannot be saved by replacing the disc. Only do the recovery of the failed disk.

Can you show us the Partitions windows in DMDE? That should normally only take a minute or less, no need for a full scan.

This was the first disk on the SPAN, by the way.

What did the second disk show?

We need to find the first and last sectors of each 4TB segment of the DATAVOLUME and then stitch them together. Then you will at least recover every file that exists within the first 8TB of the 12TB volume.

DMDE has a RAID: Auto Calculate (Scan) feature. I haven't used it, but you might like to see if it can assemble the two 4TB sections.

I'm trying the feature you suggested, but I've selected the JBOD/Spanned option, since that was the way the drives were configured.

When it finishes i'll post a print of the result.

As Tomset said, you cannot get anything without the faulty drive.. must be cloned & rebuilt..

Yes but as fzabkar says, first 8 TB of the span should be recoverable if it is indeed last disk in span that fails. In construct RAID in DMDE you can add remaining disks and adjust offsets etc. to start offset etc of the data partitions (F2). Click 'Partitions' button and select the 4TB ext3 partitions on both disks. or am I missing something here?

In DMDE, try this:

Drive -> Construct RAID
Select JBOD/Spanned in drop-down list
R-click the screen and select Add Disk
Add your first and second drives (and maybe a NULL disk as well)
Tick the "Show Partitions" box and select OK

Now d-click the 12TB partition and expand the $Root. Do you see your file/folder structure?

Try to recover a file which you know is on the second drive. This will confirm whether the two 4TB segments have been correctly combined.

@fzabkar I'm doing what you said, and this is what shows before the d-click the partition. I found strange that it shows two 12 TB partitions and a lot of other partitions, as I printed here: https://prnt.sc/tv4w0w

When I d-clicked the partition it started a File System reading, it's taking a while, so when it finishes I'll post it here as well. Right now it's showing 3000 directories and 62000 files at 22%, so I'm hopeful that it can retrieve the folder structure.

I would have thought that d-clicking DATAVOLUME (on drive #1) should have displayed the file system within seconds, so I can't understand why you would need a full scan for the partial span. :-?

Hello again, the File System reading got stuck in 33% and it started to progress very slowly. In two days of scanning it only got to 35%, so I've aborted the process.

It still showed the results of the reading, and it can retrieve the directory info and the filenames, as shown in this printscreen: https://prnt.sc/tx7dtp

How can I do that stitch you mentioned before, joining the two drives that are good?

You should probably clone your drives, especially the second one. It appears that it may be failing???
