OK, I've got my hi-res photo. I've also been googling other people's experiences and part numbers as suggested and have this info. Another user had a similar problem as mine with a WD1200 drive (blown motor chip) and also had to swap the firmware. He ointed to the 8 pin chip that looks similar to mine (but in a different location that's above the large WDC chip and a bit to the right. This chip is labeled ST755. I googled this part number but all I could come up with is an "adjustable inverting DC-DC regulator". I also found that the chip in the upper left is flash memory. Any help?
