Hi Monolit, well well we have here someone that can help us, finaly.
Ok, I have some doubts, and i saw that you are an expert, in hard disks maters; so I would like to askyou some help, if is possible of course.

First I hear that to fix drivers ( and fix drivers is not only record a firmware ) we need to know ATA commands, this is true ?

And to start to fix them the first thing that we have to do is: put then in "Factoring Repair Mode", is this true ?

And them we can start to make a diagnoses, is this true ?

Also I hear that we do not need to buy PC3000 and HRT, because we can make the utils suing the ATA supercommands, is this true ?

And you say that the PC3000 and the HRT is only to record firmwares, so you know how to fix the others problems, no ?

Like G-List, P-LIst; SMART failling, Passwords, and other small problems that we see in the hard disks, M'I wright ?

So if this is all true; could you - please - help us, mortals ?

Best regards
Jose Pinto

Hi!
>>First I hear that to fix drivers ( and fix drivers is not only

Yes, it's true, but these ATA commands is vendor specific ATA commands and may be various even for different drives of the same manufacturer.

>>And to start to fix them the first thing that we have to do
>>is: put then in "Factoring Repair Mode", is this true ?

Only for some hard drives. For example, the Fujitsu and quantum hard drives enters that mode automatically, when one or few modules of "diskware" (it's part of firmware, located on the media platters) is damaged. When will damaged the Flash ROM on Fujitsu HDD's, hard drive enters the "Kernel Mode", and ready to receive only commands for read/write the Flash ROM.

>>And them we can start to make a diagnoses, is this true ?

Yes.

>>Also I hear that we do not need to buy PC3000 and HRT,
>>because we can make the utils suing the ATA ??
>>supercommands, is this true ?

Yes, if you know this supercommands, there is no problems, but if you don't know one, it's very difficult work, you need to disassemble firmwaries, firmware update utils etc, you must understand, how it work and what is what there, in order to find and get supercommands.

>>And you say that the PC3000 and the HRT is only to record

Not completely. PC-3000 is bad utility for IBM HDD, at least in v.11. It does not fix serious firmware problems and password problem in newest IBM HDD's, one useful feature - disconnection of damaged heads, is not useful for IBM HDD's, because in this HDD's if one head is damaged, all other heads after some time will damaged too. HRT is more better and can fix any problems with firmware etc. However, problems with reallocated sectors in the SMART, bad sectors on the media, and transfer defects from user list to factory list, can be fully done by freeware DFT utility from http://www.hgst.com.

>>So if this is all true; could you - please - help us, mortals ?

:-)

Best regards,
Michael.
