Hi, new member, found forum researching recovery options on a no longer recognized ST31000AS340. Went through DIY routine (hobby system builder) ruling out controller, wiring, power and jumper setting. After further research; some portion spent here, I am dismissing fw/pcb chase as viable alternative as this drive powers up, seeks and spins 'normally' as far as I can tell. I am disheartened about Cuda 11 failure rate as I've been migrating toward this brand for business and home office storage needs for past 2 years without incident.

Contacted ST in-house DR service but am reluctant to reward OEM with business even thou i386 contractual aspects seem to be transparent and expedient.

I am seeking advice about any other method I could try on my own and/or vendor recommendations in So Cal area.

Thanks in advance
Frank

PS. Forgot to ask whether firmware update utility specified for this drive posted in download section (AD14.zip) can somehow increase my odds to avoid considerable expense of 3rd party data recovery (no knock on the pros :)

Hi Frank, no DIY that can be done without an expensive tool. This problem is assosciated with firmware corruption. If data is important seek a professional DR companies close to you.

i365 is one option.

Some of us can do it for less.

Trying to get business to ontrack, see that most of his posts say that Ontrack is the best. :)

Not sure they really need to troll the forums to drum up business. When i worked for them we never needed to have someone working the forums for business. But seeing the amount of drives I recover that had the Ontrack warranty sticker on them.... well you can figure it out.

I have chosen a fellow forum member to handle my case. Cheers to HDDGURU! If plugs are appropriate I hope to return the favor.
