The tools for repair the disks can be buyed and from other countries. As Canada, for example.
But is very expesive becouse you must pay and for confidential packages and the agreement
is very strong. But the tools is writed using real specifications! More professional!

Do you think Pc3k is a good starter for recover disk drives?
And how did you mean - buying tools for repairing drives from Canada? Are these tools useful for data recovery?
Do you know how much this could cost and from where to get?
Many questions - hmm? Many thanks in advance for answering!
regards Fred

From Canada is possible to buy not only software for repair;
the full complex for repair (but model based) including servo
writer machine for write servo and the extension for data recovery.
Price is very expensive; I don't know exactly but the base kit is
around 100.000 USD and include few base models of each manufacturer.

On the IBM new models (Ex. AVVA) password is encrypted and
if is set the drive reject all super commands. But is possible to remove the protection; for this you must have access phisical to disk (for re-write NV-RAM)...

Thebegginer :
As far as I konw,The hard drive password of IBM is not stored in the NV-RAM but on part of the platter that we can't read,How could you remove the protection by rewrite the NV-RAM.

Monk:
Do you mean that by update the modules of the new IBM drive ,we will be able to remove the
encrypt function and make the password to be in unencrypted status?
Could you explain it more clearly?

thank you all !

For stillcool:
I don't say password is stored in NV-RAM; But the NV-RAM is the solution for open the drive; copy NV-RAM to file; modify NV-RAM with HEX editor; write back to IC; using USAG; rewrite SECI module with another from a good drive...., etc...
