Okay...I'm going to ask a stupid question. "Are the drives in the LaCie unit configured with the OS on them, yet?" I'm not familiar with the exact model, but as an earlier post suggests. the OS is stored on the drives. So, you will not get an IP or a web interface unless the drive's are setup first. LaCie techs have a special setup CD that they use to initialize the drives prior to inserting into the unit.

Again, the model you are working with might have the OS stored on a chip, but that has not been my experience, thus far.

From your latest ipconfig report, it would appear that your router has taken IP address 192.168.0.1, and has assigned an address of 192.168.0.3 to your desktop. This would suggest that it has also found your NAS and assigned it an address of 192.168.0.2, assuming that it assigns addresses in sequential order. You could confirm this by switching the NAS and PC cables and onserving whether their IP addresses are swapped, or you could remove the NAS and observe whether your desktop moves to 192.168.0.2. Alternatively, you could use your browser to access the router's configuration page.

My router's page is accessed by typing the following into my browser's address bar:

http://10.1.1.1

Therefore in your case I would try ...

http://192.168.0.1

If you've already tried that, as you appear to be saying, then consult your router's manual. You may need to specify a more complete URI, eg ...

http://10.1.1.1/hag/pages1/home.ssi

You might see something like this:
http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/DSL-30 ... u/menu.ssi

Section 5.1 of the user manual talks about accessing the Lacie's NAS Administration Page. In your case you would type the following into your browser:

http://192.168.0.2

The default user name and password are both "admin".

Section 4.1 talks about accessing the shared storage.

Assuming that your NAS is not broken (as lcoughey has suggested it may be), you could access your files by typing the following into a Windows Explorer address field:

\\192.168.0.2

You could also gain access via FTP by typing the following into your browser:

ftp://192.168.0.2

I'll give it a go tonight, I'm pretty sure I have windows firewall disabled & haven't installed AVG on either of them yet!

I have put the original HDD's back in for now but I did format the original 100% storage drive to NTFS to use in another system & then had the problems so I changed it back to the linux native 0x83 system, but the other LaCie HDD is the 1 that has all the operating files & 4 or so different partitions & I haven't touched it , just plugged it into a windows system & performed a complete clone to another HDD!

I might do a bit of searching to find out more about ARP, maybe I should go into my router(netgear) settings & see what DHCP lease settings & try those IP's & hopefully I get lucky with 1 of them?

Just re-reading didn't see 3rd page...

if that is in fact correct lccoughey, which I've been told you can change the HDD's but they have to be initialized inside the unit & over the network otherwise they wont be seen? If LaCie do have an initial setup disk to initialize them I need to find this!

I think the unit itself is working somewhat as explained earlier when I plug it in via USB & install driver it does find somewhat of a partition, maybe I should just plug the 1 HDD for now that I have only cloned & not moded at all & see if I can get that recognized & then set it up after that?

again I will try all the pre mentioned tasks & see how I go tonight!

Your stuck doing it the hard way- Most the models I have worked on have an initilize procedure- a series of button pushes to get enough onto drives to start the process. You MUST be able to ping the unit- IE- Lacie Network Assistant should be able to see it. You must download the firmware from lacie - it can then be added. Good luck.
