seems like if they did any manner of checking at all they'd be able to tell the pcb was non-native.

Plus then you have to have another drive to kill to get the pcb from.

I was happy I found this thread, then I read through it....

as far as I understand, this thread is exactly the place where the 'pros' are supposed to tell you
how to do things, usually in fairly simple steps.

If you know something and don't want to share it then shut the f up, people come here to learn
not be belittled by 'DR experts'......

And when people politely and eloquently say 'cool it' you mock them? WTF?

You simply come across as really, really, small people.

Of course, if I am reading this incorrectly, or there is something in the reg info for this board that says 'be a snotty f when
you can', then I stand corrected. So if any of you 'DR experts' want to correct me that this is not highly counter to the
entire concept of this board... well, I'd love to hear your logic. :^)

hi people,

My HDD barrucuda 7200.11 500GB Firmware SD15, failed with the LBA 0 error ...

I still cannot understand why Seagate refuse to consider me as a victim of the screwed firmware ??
According my Serial number , My drive is not affected with the problem (??) but it has the exactly the same symptoms as everyone infected....

And because of this, I can't use the free recovery service by seagate !! I would cost me a lot to recover data from my HDD :( :(

what the foock with Seagate ?

My only hope to get my data back without selling one of my kidneys, is to do that tutorial ....
So, for the Seagate fanboys , YES This kind of tutorials are really needed on the web, to face manufacturer's incompetence.

<Sorry for my bad english>

BIG Thank you for this tutorial !!

RE: not effected Seagate HDDs

Check your serial number again, specifically check that you didn't mistake an S for an 8, I did that the first time
and the Seagate app does not tell you (I think) if the serial is invalid, just that it doesn't match ones that they will
pony-up for.

I just un-bricked my ST31000... and I updated the firmware. If you want a guide that explains a lot (it is actually pretty
easy, again, getting the tools and hooking it up took way more time than unlocking it).

Here are the links:

For the best explanation:
http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=128807
note there are a bunch of related topics in this forum on variations of the unlock process and helpful comments.

I ended up buying this: http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSea ... 68-1015-ND
aside from this I removed two pins on those small connectors (like the fan connections on Mobos) inserted one end (for each pin) into the serial side (you can see from the schematic what Rx and Tx are) and the other on the drive, removed one torx
screw, slipped a business card under the hole, downloaded Indigo Terminal Emulator from download.com powered-up the drive and ran about 4 commands, updated the firmware using the Seagate site instructions!

Fun fun fun!

Ancient Chinese recipe - ehhhh?

oh - and Yoda, well, I guess I just pity you.

I have read your solution.
I have got a siemens RS232 data cable of my old S45!
I have taken connector number 5 to TX and connector number 6 to RX; connector number 1 to GND.
I have assembled the all, but it doesn't work!
I couldn't see anythiong from hyperterminal!
Where is the mistake?
Thanks for all

I think I had to hit a blank <return> to get the first T> prompt (or whatever it was), does you disk spin up? Did you set the port correctly in hyperterminal?

I think that I must put the GND in common with all, is it correct?

Are you really connecting the phone, the harddisk and the computer at the same time, on the same cable?

I would ask the people of the 'solution' instead. What if the drive is not responding?

I'm using my S45 cell like a battery for MAX232!
The TX and RX connector is out from the S45 connector! There are in the hard disk!
I think that the problem is that data cable is original siemens!

An easy way to test the cable is to short tx and rx (without connecting the hd!) and see if you have an echo when typing on hyperterminal if you do the cable will probably work, if there's no echo, make sure you disabled hardware flowcontrol...
My siemens cable has a pl2303 plus discrete components that prevent using the cable for such applications :)

I have found another data cable "Mobile Action MA-8260" that is not an original datacable for samsung D500, but I could found the schematics, where could I found it?
If I buy it from internet I'm waiting a lot of time, I prefer an home made solution!
Thanks

Homemade solution=build your own from schematic. I bet your drive being connected to cell phone has tried to call Seagate for help...
