we have a seagate 20gig which is recognised by the system but doesnt work at all after that. Tried to scan it with Mhdd but it gets stuck at cyl 0 hd 0...waited for around 10 minutes but it kept on retrying. Used another datarecovery program it was abot recognise the file system, FAT but it also runs very very slow.

Any suggestion how we can recover the data.

you can try to access from the begining others area of the hdd, not LBA 0 or near, hopping that only this initial zones are afected, wich is a usual thing for some models.
for this you can try various prgrams that support this feature.
