Ok, I have not got data extractor yet so maybe it is better.

Once we have established a working drive we do a disk clone on every job and never extract files from the source drive.

Media Tools - easy to find - US$400, is in my opinion the best I have tested.

Recovers data from "bad sectors" on the fly. Why fix them ?
Read retries up to 32X
Read Timeout & Read Delay
Media Wipe
Analyze, Repair Partitions, BR and more
Editor, Surface test

Often detects drives that bios cannot find and even has correctly found drives that some famous utilities cannot find.

If you are unhappy with your disk cloning software give it a try

Any suggestions for equal or better would be much appreciated.

Please tell us about it - where it can bought and how much it costs.

Also some of your experiences with it can be useful here.

I think the best disk cloning software is Encase. http://www.guidancesoftware.com . It's used by the FBI.

Also Disk cloning hardware can be found here http://www.logicube.com

Best cloning software is the one made by myself :teeth:

I think everyone here needs information but have none themself, it's a shame but thats life. What you know is worth money, it costs $$ to research yourself, why should I give away my secrets for free?

Maybe need a special forum, for people who know what they are doing and can understand firmware/software and mechanics? Even exchange of good information that can help both parties.

I've had enuff of "Ohhh can't fix my Maxtor, can't do this, don't understand that" Spoon feeding is not an option in this game. If you think your a data rec company then get LEARNING yourself.... Sorry but it gets up my X&^$&$89^(

just my humble opinion..

So what are you here for Guru? to "exchange" information. Surely that means getting information from someone and not LEARNING it yourself.

:D

:D Just want to see how the "Others" try to learn.

Actualy exchange information works <both ways> :me: Unlike yourself. What info have you learned that you have not been told?

Maybe R2D2 can help you, after all he's princess L's "Only Hope" :D :D :D

its working, its very good when you have many bad sectors,
but i f you dont have many bad sectors try using diskpatch its faster
and using udma66 at least.
there is clonemax ( pc inspector ) didnt tried it so i dont know if its
good , maybee others did??

the fastest and best is hardware cloners but i dont have one myself

I don't like MTL, because it hangs on hard drives that have bad sectors. It freezes the program and you have to restart it...

Hello,

I think everybody who has something to do with data recovery has at least to try to make a cloning utility for himself using ATA commands.
This can help to get an idea of how things work on the cable and the board.
And U will have the best cloning utility as well :)
This was amongst the first lessons I took in the beginning.
Now I use many things, but when something is really BAD, I use this 3KB code I have written in assembly.
And I can fine-tune it every time to fit the actual needs.

regards,
pepe

I think you're right Pepe... I'll start to work on my own cloning utility because is a very good way to learn while making something useful.
