Hi all,

I'm looking for a five-point torx (preferably a set) to open a Toshiba 1.8" mini drive. I'm estimating the size I need to be between T4 and T6, but after quite a lot of browsing, I have not been able to find any five-point torx sets with a smaller size than T8. Has anyone else run into this issue, or do you know where I could find what I'm looking for?

Thanks in advance

Radio Shack should have a set for you.

Have had success with using appropriately sized standard torx on these screws. If they're not torqued too tightly it will usually work. On tough cases have used Dremel tool to cut new notch in head and remove with standard straight driver.

They are special tools but DO exist. I have a set but was a long time ago when I bought it (it has T3 to T6, many of those '5 star torx-like', and tri-wing). Quite sure it was bought in Europe, I have to search in the documents, I'll let you know. In any case a "conditioned" standard tool (required some adaptation) should work decently.

I have a set I bought at a store called Micro Center. PM me if you want me to get you the item number next time I go to the store. It has two five point bits, being about that size.

I already used scalpel to open microdrive (using tri-wings screws) but most of time, screw is damaged and you can use it once, twice if your are lucky  .

Here I have to unscrew the motor of HDD, usually motors are strongly screwed, scalpel isn't appropriate for my case.

I ordered multiple sets, but none that fit this particular drive. I ended up using a small flat head and wedging it in the grooves of the five point screw, but that doesn't sound like it'll work for your case. Let us know if you come across anyone selling this bit...

i ordered torx 3 for hitachi 1.8 drive head swap. But T3 was too big. Used scalpel and indeed damaged the screw , but still got all the data so no problem =) We are not in the business of hdd rescue =) we recover data =)

If link does not work, search pentagon screwdriver in ebay. It's the orange colored set.

Alexii : HDD has already been opened with standard Torx. Now motor's screw is a little bigger than the other, T4 is too small and T5 is too big. I began to damage the screw with T4 :? , that's why I'm looking fo the appropriate tool, now I have no choice.

Nand : Have you already try it ? Delay are veeery long...

Yes, the pentagon screwdriver fits exactly. But the waiting time is long. Might be useful though for later work...
