As drc guessed, and as your Seagate disk model number (ST31000340AS) also implies, that's a normal SATA connector.

I discovered that the connection is a standard SATA connection and purchased a USB 3.0 3.5" SATA HARD DRIVE ENCLOSURE from BestBuy. After installation, the Seagate HD powered up but was not recognized by any of three different PCs to which I connected the HD, leading me to the conclusion that the Seagate driver board is faulty. It is possible to obtain a replacement, but the existing board has to be removed (requires special tool) and mailed in. The Seagate website contains very detailed information on this (ST31000340AS) and many other HDs made by them. That will be my next shot. And so, the saga continues... Yes, that's what we told you from the photos & Seagate disk part number etc. :)

Using USB (instead of a direct SATA connection) gives you minimal diagnostic possibilities, except that you have now confirmed it is a drive problem, and not a problem with the Iomega enclosure (assuming that your USB enclosure from Best Buy is not also faulty).

If by "driver board", you mean the PCB (i.e. electronics) on the drive, then that's unlikely to be faulty. Since you say the drive is spinning, the chances of the PCB being faulty is small.

It seems that the Enclosure is OK. Two removable drives show up on Windows Explorer when the Enclosure is connected, probably related to the memory card slots on the Enclosure. The drive motor turns, but the HD is not recognized.

If my suspicion that the controller board mounted on the back of the HD is faulty is incorrect, other than a faulty disk, what could the problem be? It might be worth the effort to replace the controller board and see what happens. Might even get a working 1TB HD with all of its data intact out of it. What a great day that would be!

You would be wasting time and money if buying another PCB. The problem is elsewhere. The seagate website should have given you some insight. Dig deeper.
