A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to Paraskave! I had vital information on my HDD and his method saved it. I just gave it about 15 small hits from the side, that did not do anything, but 1 got the HDD to spin up once for a very short period, thats when I realized this method might work. After reading his solution I gave one medium force (thats hard for a HDD) blow (or very hard smack) to the left side whilst holding the HDD in my other hand horizontally and shiny side facing upward. I did this right after I pluged in the usb connector to the pc. Immediately it worked. This is a great fix, because I did not have to disassemble the casing, I just had to "smack" it. I do seem to have lost some files, but thats not as bad as losing 500 GB (my HDD was pretty much full). I'm right now copying all my files off the drive and I'll do chkdsk etc later.... After seeing how unreliable this HDD is, and that it is not a standard drive I have decided to move to a different brand. What a letdown from samsung again....

THANKS!

e_lm_70!!

Dude you are a fuckin genius..........!!!!!!!!!!!

Was still busy watching Spartucus....and bam...the player starts to hang...... (problem i think came because the drive was not placed level on a flat surface, instead it was placed vertically, with the usb plug to top) windows gives me the normal shitty error: Not Responding.... so me, being an impatient fool decide to unplug the HD. Still hanging like a bitch, i decide to force a restart because the bloody effin HD cut out on a very exiting battle between Spartacus & Creeksus.

After startup when i noticed no HD, and i unplugged it. as soon as i plugged it in again, i head this weird-ass sound, after that, the blinking blue light in sequences of 3....

immediately i knew i was fucked, as this is my wife's HD, with all her VERY IMPORTANT consulting documents saved on it.

i bombarded google with my problem untill i came to this forum... I followed you advice and BAM!!! i got to see how Spartucus's ass was kicked, and of course, my wife's precious docs is saved!!!

Thank you, you persistent genius!

you saved her G2 Portable 640GB HHD!!!... and my life

I have a s2 portable 2.0 and the board is totally fried. Is there anyone here who has a fried drive and would be willing to part with the board? I have my some of my sons baby pics on it I'm trying to get off it. I purchased a new 3.0 thinking the board might work on the old 2.0 drive but it wont :(
Please IM me or email me if you do. moyica@yahoo.com
Thanks, Andrew

Search the forum with keywords such as "adaptive", "ROM", "Samsung", etc. You may be wasting your time and money.

@ moyica
yours may not be a DIY case.

Post a picture of the defective board,

A straight pcb swap will most probably not work as labtech stated

Also there are chances of internal damages which you will not be able to fix it yourself

if the data is very important and worth the money, find a pro .

The usb solder cam loose and broke off. The connection from the usb port and the board is totally unsalvageable. So there isn't anything wrong with the actual hdd. I will get a pic up of it soon. There's only some pictures on it that I would like.

If you have soldering skills, fine soldering skills, reattaching the usb port or establishing connection to the board and usb port using fine (thin) insulated conductors should be the best and easiest solution for you.

you would require,at the minimum,a fine tip soldering iron, magnifiying glass, steady hands, time and patience

I gave soldering a shot but to no avail. I'm still looking for a spare board if there's one out there to be had

A straight forward swap of spare board will not work, you will have to transfer the rom, all details about it are available in this forum.
post a picture of your board, if it is only a problem of a broken usb connector, it will be the easier to fix than swapping the board,as a DIY method.
DIY has its risks, complicating or spoiling the chances of recovery later (if you opt to take DR help)by DR companies , so if its important and you are not sure you can handle it ,take DR help , it should not cost much for your drive in this state.

Hi there - joined this forum just to say - the "shock" treatment worked for my drive too - was about to throw it out after trying other solutions (cables, different PC's, other devices).

I did exactly the bang the drive while in start-up to get it working method. Otherwise it would just sit there with the LED blinking 3 times

thanks again :D

for the record - I have the Samsung M2 750GB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive P/N: HX-M750UAB/G0 Model: HX-M750UAB/G SN: E2FJJ90BA01974 (External drive details). (Internal Hard Drive Model: HN-M750XBB HDD P/N: HN-M750XBB/VP4 S/N:S2RHJ9GB801385 P/N: C71802-G14A-A4QFU SAMSUNG SPINPOINT)

I'll have to post my experience here because I am very happy.

I don't know what happened, but my external HD crashed and was not identified by the OS in any way, on any computer. I plugged in the USB and the LED was just blinking, no sound or noise.

I had already beaten in the box to see if the HDD back to work, like I did with my prehistoric computer (AMD K6 II 450Mhz) in 1996, but it doesn't worked.

So I went looking on Google for some content talking about this issue, and found some, maybe 20, and none of these posts brought information that worked, because there wasn't a problem in the OS to identify it and even in the USB port, as many said.

I found this forum and read about the experiences of all, then I read the e_lm_70's post about hitting HDD box. So I did it again and that worked! Incredible!

I did so:

I disconnected the USB HDD cable, kept the USB cable connected in the USB port of the computer. Then I connected the USB cable on HDD and I hit my hand up on the box and after I hit in the "butt" of the HDD. See the drawing below where is the "butt" of him (^^).

Image

I did it and it worked. I am very happy!
Sorry for my bad English. Thanks guys.

It's Samsung S2 Portable 640GB Produced 04.2010
While disc transferring with computer I plugged off suddenly. And I plugged in after but pc do not recognize the device.

After trying to use more power and hitting, shocking the device(before shock when I plug lights was flashing and disc was clicking 5-6 times after 5-6 clicking turning was stopped.)
So, it's the situation right now in the video.

It's still clicking and sometimes beeping. Any devices (Include BIOS or Disk Management) not recognize.

Forget about device. "What should I do for recovering my datas."

I'm waiting your advices...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is the some ways to fixing your device for the same person who are searching for fixing ways.

I bought same device Produced 07.2011 Change the PCB but it still did not work.
Don't waste your money to buy new one IT MUST BE EXACTLY SAME DEVICE.

Trying more power to your run your device with 2 USB ports cable.(It's also called "Y or T cable"). It did not work for me.

Little shock or hit working some device. But also didn't work for me.

I tried booting my pc with lot of boot and disc tools. Tried to search with diagnostic, smart, recovery tools but no way I couldn't success.

So I think there are some ways to do left. But I'm not sure about them :)
Using converter from usb to sata and try to plug with sata to motherboard.
Heat or Freeze the disc. And try to recover your data before melting your ice drive.
Opening and escaping the head from the disc and get back this park position.
Opening and changind drive head.

Share your opinion, knowledge and experiences with me and all people who are trying to fix same problem.

It's a physical issue with the heads, not DIY.

Also I fear that you may have made things a whole lot worse by "hitting and shocking" the device.

Stop messing about with it, as each time you power it up and let it click, you are damaging it further.

Hi
With HD naked ... was more clear to hear and see the problem ... after power up the HD try to make some meccanical start up ... it try repitevely for 4/5 times ... then it gave up ... after these few second... the meccanic sound sleeping ... the led blink 3 time .... pause ... and other 3 blink ... this forever .... and HD is not recognized by the PC (not even by my Samusng LE37B651 TV)

Anyhow ... in my mind I got the idea that possible one of the magnetic head, or moving part of the hard disk may have been just outside the running path ... like my old Floppy disk in was able to "die" if send to read the 83 track out of 80  ... (temporary die ... sinde with the head exposed .. was possible to give a manual push .. and put the head back in the "path")

So ... I decided to try to give some shocks to the HD in the start up phase ... maybe I can by luck push back the out of space/range meccanical part into a workable position ...

And ... bang ... at the second attemp ... give one single shake up at the start up ... I heard a different noise ... and it start to work again ....

I immediately I did copy my critical data ... then I disconnect it ... plug it back ... it did work fine ... as before crach

So ... I feel lucky to have these 500b online again ...

Still ... it scares me that a little hit in this HD, can bring it out of order ...

Tchuss

e_lm_70

ps: Any attempt to repeat my experience, and any possible damages, it is outside my responsabiity ... I just want to share my story that may help some desperate "samsung" users

I..don't...belive...it.
It really works!!!
But i did not open the plastic case.
I just, imiidately after plugged it in, int it's start up phase, i hit it with my hand several times, the HDD in horizontal level, and suddenly it just work.!!!!!

Anybody that tries this method, and is able to get their files, should not use this disk again. You should ket a new disk afterwards. No "if I chkdsk it" no "but its working fine" no "its now fixed".

Get a new one, you have just started the ticking time bomb.

I've even signed up and joined this forum just to write a reply and thank techu and e_lm_70. My Samsung M2 780GB drive was doing the same and I did the shake and it worked. Forever indebted to you.

Upon my experience this theory works I repair and recover thousand of hdd's in most time when i shock the drive the heads goes back to its parking position and spindle free to move. but always care about the shocking direct it must to reinstall the heads to parking position... but at all this is not a proper solution this is like a jam car we push to start again.
