This is a 2 part question. First, are all WD drives susceptible to head alignment problems once the cover is removed, or is the problem confined to newer/higher capacity drives? Second, I read a post that showed a picture of a WD head alignment tool that allowed the tech to adjust the head stack with the cover closed. I can't seem to find the post now, but am interested in knowing if the tool is for sale and who sells it.

There is more than just a single tool needed to deal with this alignment issue...

Just out of curiosity, is it obvious what they have done different with the hsa pivot assembly that makes them such an alignment nightmare?

Any new EARS models maybe have this issue? Its getting harder and more and more expensive to get old models that are good and compatible to test them with heads moving :(
It cost me a fortune today for testing, so the thought was... could do it with new models with less expense...

I see it sells for €984.00

Seeing that it's your tool this might be a stupid question as your answer might be slightly biased :D but how would you rate it's effectiveness - you say it's simple yet effective

DR tools prices are always hard debate in this forum...everyone expect cheap tools and free knowledge. I agree price might be high for some but then again...

It is slightly biased. :) Effectiveness is limited to patiance, but ability to document tried positions gives you the advantage.
