Hi all,

I have a Barracuda 7200.11 (ST3500320AS f/w SD1A) that powers up fine (no knocking). But after power, and spin up the drive makes a low level really quiet 'buzz' (presumably from the heads, like it's trying to read) this continues for around a minute or so then the drive becomes ready. You can load the drive in DC (all parameters are correct) but you cannot access the drive. It will just make the low level buzz for another 60 or so seconds before giving an error and then becomeing ready again. Drive cannot be cloned (as it cannot be read) and any attempt just produces 40 40 (in winhex).

The drive was in a PC that was left switched on and unnattended overnight, by morning the PC had frozen and on reboot the drive was found to be in it's current state. I have tried a hot swap both on the DC and DD (it diddnt work). I am unsure if this is a ROM or firmware issue (or possibly both) as I cannot access either on the DD even using a 100% compatible donor as a loader, and I dont think it's heads as there is absolutely nothing during the power up cycle to indicate a problem there (but I could be wrong).

Just a tad bit stuck on this one..............any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated...

As always.....thanks...

Steve..
