It's been a real pain trying to get my data back and huge disappointment, because Seagete !@$#%!@$

Anyways not trying to vent here but rather wanted your input on what can be done. I looked for various options to get this resolved to the point where i can clone the drive but with no success. Once SMART is cleared and G-list erased on the next fire up the drive still tries to reallocate whatever bad sectors are there.

Rst 0x20M
(P) SATA Reset
PASSPackage Verified
No Phy: Staggered spin bypass
InitiateMarkPendingReallocateRequest for disc_lba: 00001273
InitiateMarkPendingReallocateRequest for disc_lba: ###### <=- lots of these

ASCII Diag mode

F3 T>

Long story short i was able to Reverse clone the drive to another identical Seagate 1.5TB to the 99%, is where the bad sectors are way too many so the clone fails to read and i cannot get the MFT parts i need. Tried dd_rescue, RIP Linux, Media Tools Pro 5.1 <=- which got me that far.

What can i do from here on? Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Almost nothing without dedicated equipment : could be heads or a physical problem. Was the drive shocked by a chance ? ;)

If u cloned 99 percent of the drive backwards - great. Dive in with data rec software and get ur info Raw. If not acceptable - ull need a nice cloner that can be set for imaging bad drives. Like DDI from Deepspar. Unfortunatly i dont really know any free software cloners that can be usefull when dealing with bad blocks.

BalckST , if he did clone 99 percent already - i dont think the heads are to blame.

HEADS to blame if 99% was cloned slowly and with errors.

Hi! Might be possible to get some of the first 1% by using Media tools pro with settings set to '0' retry attempts. Also maybe you could set the sata controller to ide mode. It might just help.
Or another way might be to use the demo version of copyr.dma or hdduplicator to try and squeeze out the missing sectors containing the mft.

Dropped No way, overheated there is a possibility...call me crazy but i think it's Windows 7 and it's stupid default Power Settings. I noticed that the drive would suspend when not accessed for some time.

ST315000341AS does not support Advanced Power Management (APM). Windows 7 Ultimate on the other hand has it's default Power settings to Turn off Hard disk after (10 minutes). Since these drives were used for storage there was virtually no read access to them 50% of the time...Did i say these drives, oh yes the 30day life ST31500341AS drive that i bough for backups died on the same day. The other out of the 3 x 1.5TB that i had came back to life after system restart. Why do i think it got spared is because it has a bunch of network shares accessed most of the time.

I know it's crazy but given the fact that all 3 were in a 4-in-1 Cooler Master hard drive tray and my desktop cooling is pretty solid i don't know what else to blame...maybe the defective series since 500GB Barracudas 7200.11 and poor quality control...

Not bitter at all
