If your drive is not detected by BIOS, and if your wiring is correct, then I can't see that there is anything you can do. :-(

Ok

Just before the USB connector die i can access the drive.

So i think there is a problem with the wire.

I will check that.

Thx

The drive has unique adaptives stored on the PBC.
Did you tranfser the ROM over from the old PCB to the donor?

Upload some good quality pics front & back of both PCB's

Looks like the U12 needs to be desoldered & swapped to the donor.
Make sure the round indent matches up.

If that stll dont work then you might need to swap the U14 also

Hello,
i have a 2.5" WD5000BMVU usb hdd, which is not detected anymore in windows.
Does the usb/sata conversion for WD5000BMVV work also for WD5000BMVU ?

Fitting a SATA PCB or hacking the PCB to attach a SATA connection to a WD MY Passport Essential will not gain you access to the data as it will still be encrypted data.

Loki i understand what u say, but if i hack the pcb i will know if the problem is the pcb or something internal.
Am i right?

At the moment the drive motor spins, but does 5 head clic and motor spins down.
Could be the pcb?

If it spins up then the PCB is OK.
The symptoms your describing "drive motor spins, but does 5 head clic and motor spins down" is normally bad / damaged heads
Sorry but not a DIY fix as you need access to a cleanroom to do the head swap in to stop contamination of the platters + the tools & experience. If you tried DIY then you have less than 5% chance.

I didn't try any DIY, i only cleaned the pcb contact because there was a lot of moisture.
I will send it to cleanroom.
Thank you loki

Hey guys, I also have one of these drives. connected it yesterday up to a notebook (that was in safe mode) and copied about 30gb data, but when I was at the 26gb left - mark, the drive spinned up like it was boosted with 250Volt. Since then it stopped working. Once, it got connected, but with a really high spinning speed, and the computer showed that there was data on it.
Well, after disconnecting it, it didnt got showed up on any of my other computers.

Here is a video showing the harddrive in action. I guess, the USB controller is messed up.

I hope you can give me some useful advices :S

Hello

I dont know if this thread is still active but i could really use some help.

I have the same drive WD5000BMVV ... PCB 2060-771754-000. The drive spinned up and that was all.. The led was turned on all the time. After half an hour being connected to the PC the computer recognized the HDD and showed me the drive letter and files. And that was all. I couldnt do anything after that. Files were not recognized and the drive stood still.

I removed the capacitors and after that the hdd isnt recognized on the PC anymore. It only spins up and makes weird 8-bit sounds that sound like "Error". The sounds repeat itself for 5 to 6 times... after that its all quiet.

Should i order a used PCB? Will it work? Or did i damage the drive with removing the Capacitors.
Im desperate. I have on that HDD pictures of my newborn and now they're gone. I also tried to change to swap the PCB with similar drives and it makes the exact same sound. Error.

Help?

Best regards,
Matjaz

This is 100% stiction. Not a PCB issue. Needs pro intervention if you care about the data.

Even though it spins up? Or that's not full spinup?
