MDL: WD400JD-22NCO
DATE: 28 APR 2005
DCM: ESCHCVJAH

STARTED THE SYSTEM AND CMOS DIDN'T FIND THE H.D.D. OPENED THE H.D.D AND FOUND THAT THE SMOOTH IC WAS BURNT. REPLACED WITH SAME ONE BUT THERE IS NO SPIN UP. PLZ HELP

Do you mean that you replaced the SMOOTH chip?

There's probably a lot more dead than the smooth. Smooth makes negative powersupply also.
If it blows, its very likely some other components die with it too.
You'll need at least to replace the whole pcb and then transfer the rom contents.

If then it clicks, heads are dead too and its the end of DIY.

Whats SA?

Logic boards are costly (Rs. 1700). With that price I can buy a new hdd. Plz provide some repair tips.

You can get new drives for less than $50 so why waste time trying to repair a dead drive?

Can you upload a detailed photo? I can't make out anything in your other photos.

BTW, what are the part numbers on the two SMOOTH chips?
