The SST25VF010 is a 1 Mbit chip, whereas the Winbond IC is a 2 Mbit device. Otherwise they would be functionally identical.

I don't know whether the capacity difference is significant. Sometimes manufacturers will use a larger chip if it is easier or cheaper to source. They may not use the extra space, though.

Does that have anything to do with firmware and why windbond chip wouldn't decrypt data on first drive?

You can fit twice as much firmware in a 2 Mbit chip but you won't know whether that's significant until you dump the contents. That requires specialised test equipment, or perhaps the manufacturer has a proprietary software utility that can do this. The additional 1 Mbit may just contain zeros.

In any case I suspect that moving the original chip to your donor board may solve your problem. I'm assuming that the bridge ICs are identical, and that there is no significant difference in their internal code. That said, I have no hands on experience with this product, only user feedback.

If the eeprom is what i need , shouldn't the usb controller have worked when tech re-soldered it in the first place? ( at the data recovery center)

Im wondering if I am able to get same board (AA), if its going to be just plug and go or if Ill need to extract hex codes?

Actually I just recovered my data a few days ago. In my case, my usb board was 4061-705059. It turns out that particular drive (500gb my book essential) revision was not an issue. On a new drive of the same model, 2 diff. revisions decrypted it. I used the program Partition Find and Mount . It scanned bad drive,found partition and mounted it to a drive letter. Worked like a charm. Ordered usb board off ebay.

Maybe the soldering job wasn't probably done.

thanks for the info, Navlag. Im ordering that same part, which seems to be the only one available on ebay. Mine is a 1.5TB with 4060-705059-003 Rev AA, and the item is 4060-705059-001 Rev A. Hope it works!

Simply it's not a thing YOU can do AT YOUR HOME.

It sounds like the drive may have internal damage (media, heads), in which case it would not be a good idea to keep trying to spin it up.

Alternatively, it could be that the micro-USB connector has been damaged. If so, then you could remove the drive from its enclosure and connect it to a SATA port on your computer's motherboard. Then run WD's Data LifeGuard diagnostic against it. Note that even if DLG passes all the tests, you will still not have access to your data. This is because the USB-SATA bridge board has 128-bit AES hardware encryption. The solution in this case is to resolder the connector, or to replace the board with one from an identical product of the same capacity.

The exact same thing has happened to me. The USB connector broke off inside the hard drive. I've taken the HDD out, and tried to use it in an enclosure, but it isn't recognized on my PC or Mac (probably because it's encrypted...?)

First of all, please spare me any 'computer language', as I won't understand. I need this data desperately (and before you say anything, my back-up has just broken, too) I want to stress that I can't afford to spend much getting it fixed, and I don't have the time to wait. I need the data as soon as possible. Please, please could someone give me a quick step-by-step guide as to what I should do.

The chip board and USB connector don't look great, but maybe they can be put back together...? I won't try this myself, though.

he told me that he will use a certain machine which he will put the hard inside and (this machine is vacumed from inside no air at all like the space) he will open the hard drive and replace the media from another hard drive from the same kind.
He asked for about 200 USD to do this
the question is if he done what he said is it going to work or not?
Is 200 USD fair or it is too much?

Ask your local TV/AV repair shop to resolder it for you.

Otherwise buy exactly the same external drive and swap the PCB.
