 Post subject: hard drive broken

hi everyone if anybody could help me as im in desperate need of help,
i have a sata external hard drive which is full of media i have collected over the years as a dj
after i plug it into my laptop all it says is i need to format the hard drive before i can you it,i have the mirens boot disk and i am able to save a few files but not all of it,is there any utility on the mirins boot disk that can repair the bad parameters in order to get it fixed again.

Stop doing this now. First off clone this drive. Second off you need to repair the partition table on it. If it can not be repaired then you need to purchase a DR progam to do a recovery on your drive. Get Data Back NTSF or FAT depending on your file system is a good one to start off with. There are others but this one normally can work in your case to get back the data off this drive. Stop playing around with this drive before it is too late. Clone it there are a lot of cloning programs out there. Work on the clone after this one. Then you can get back your data. Once is is back you can then format this drive and see if there is any bad sectors on it or other media damage. If there is then use the new drive and get rid of this one.

Poehere gives a great advice. Ill just add that u need a bit by bit cloner. Try HDclone.

Could we see the partition table and boot sector with Microsoft's Sector Inspector?

Extract the above archive to the one folder and execute the SIrun.bat file. The procedure will generate a report file named SIout.txt.
