Dear friends,

Thansk a ton!

If you #or anyone else# have failed motherboards but working solid state drives and want to get your data off of it, How about a trade?
I have a working VPC-Z2 with a now dysfunctional mzrpc256hadr #same thing that is used in all variants of the z2 and the svs/svz series#. Long story short, one day half the RAID array crapped out and now I'm raidless. I could buy a drive off of a really shady and expensive Chinese website, but id rather go with something that isn't as sketchy.
I can attempt to recover anyone's data and send it to you via external disks #CD/DVD, drives, whatever you want# if you let me buy the drive off of you for a reasonable price.

Hi all,

Slightly different question here, but I believe some of you may now this: Is there a way to connect a more standard SATA SSD to the 60-pin socket on those RAID-0 VAIO motherboards? Or am I stuck with the LIF SSDs on RAID forever now?

In my case it was the Samsung LIF SSD which failed. Luckily no important data there. Vaio is all fine. Would like to put a standard and more modern SSD back there. Any thoughts on how to do this?

No, that's way too complex, and I'm looking to connect a simple SATA drive (like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-BX100-250GB-Internal-Solid/dp/B00RQA6TEI/) in place of those RAID0 LIF SSDs. I found this cable and am thinking to give it a try: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321387688269?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

Then I'll need a proper caddy for it too: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131518218620?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

Just wondering if that will work.

It's a LIF or ZIF surface mounted connector.
count pins and see what you find at mouser.com or other electronic suppliers. You may even find one on old hard disks. Fujitsu and Quantum spring to mind

Count the pins, measure the length, width and pin pitch. The check the specs for those. I think yours MIGHT be 44 pin but you will have a clearer view :)

If the broken pins are power pins, then it should be very easy to run jumper wires between the appropriate points.

How should I jumper wires?
I also don't know what the functions are of the pins.
The problem is also that I don't know how many pins there are in total.

Have one of these as well (256GB).

Any suggestions as to what NOT to do in order to avoid wasting time on such drives?

PMs are welcome if anybody feels like today is Sunday.

Thanks in advance.

Forgot to update. Was able to recover the data two days ago.
Case closed.

I appreciate the individual who sent the one PM.

I have the same problem. I have 2 VaioZs with burnt mobo and need to use those ssds in another build. So looking for an adapter to use them (not just recover data)

Please kindly help me and post the solution either in the thread or via PM. I have been searching for the past two days and a lot of the ideas are "sent in a PM". Would be great if someone can share the details publicly.

Thanks in advance.

The exact laptop model from which they was pulled off (2 x laptops): VPCZ128GG/XQ.

IMHO, the easiest way to identify the SATA pins is to find an SSD with a regular 22-pin SATA connector (15 x power, 7 x data) and with the same flash controller, in this case an S3C29MAX01-Y340. Then follow the Tx/Rx traces from the SATA connector back to the controller.

Think this model is a 2 x 128 GB drive. So prepare to clone 2 drives and some RAID0 reconstruction.
