Re: Samsung RAID LIF 128GB SSD, any adaptor for it?????

Unless you have the experience to other things as you have seen throughout the thread, the cheapest DIY option is roughly around $1500, which would involve buying another laptop in working order and putting your drives in it to perform recovery. Of course, this is assuming the drives themselves are still in working condition. Another option is to find someone who has the laptop, can borrow it, put the drives in and recover. That can help cut down on cost.

If not, seek pro help, a real pro, and the cost could be less than $3500.

There should be few good pro choices in your area. Educate yourself and choose wisely.

Best wishes

I don't mind a little soldering; is book14's pinout from page one good?
"pin 1 17 20 23 26 should be G
Pin 3-13 is 3.3V (try to use the 1117 to regenerate the 3.3V instead of 5V
the 18-19 21-22 is the Front Side SATA Signal
and the 24-25 27-28 is the Back Side Sata Signal."

For starters, looking at the drive it looks like pin 16 is G not 17. Everything else seems reasonable in terms of the data channels being easy to ID. I just want to kind of make sure that pinout is mostly correct, and that I won't fry something by connecting it like that. I have USB SATA interfaces to solder it to, but since it has 2 data channels won't I need 2 interfaces? or can I just use 1 ZIF cable? http://pinoutsguide.com/HD/ata_sata_zif_pinout.shtml

ZIF cable seems to have enough data channels to handle two drives, but will it be recognized?

Found this forum today. Thanks for the previous posters info, it got me pointed in the right direction. samsung mzrpc256hadr-000so 256gb with broken\missing connector. Very interesting, unique drive. 2 ssds in a raid. 1st side is dumping now.

I have similar SSD in my Sony SVZ-13 but bit different "problem". Original ssd died. (computer works like a charm with other ssd)

I would like to use msata ssd in this laptop instead of original, due to ridiculous pricing of original.

What's needed then? Small adapter which has similar LIF-connector used in MZRPC128HACD and msata-female connector in other end. But has anyone made or tried to make this kind of adapter? Or even better, adapted msata connector to the ssd end of original ssd cable.

ssd_cable.jpg

I know I will loose some of the speed by using only one ssd but I doubt there's enough space for two msata ssd's with adapters?

Could someone make me such an adapter? If so please contact me random_man(a)live.com. Thx in advance!

If you connect the capacitor of the Back side , remember to reverse like the picture attached.

Hello Book14,

I have the same case in lab, could You provide some help with this pinout?

Any suggestions as to what NOT to do in order to avoid wasting time on such drives?

PMs are welcome if anybody feels like today is Sunday.

Thanks in advance.

Forgot to update. Was able to recover the data two days ago.
Case closed.

I appreciate the individual who sent the one PM.

Hi! sorry for my bad english.

This is for this PCB we disscussed. And the previous picture I attached is another layout.
Be sure to USE 3.3V

I have a Sony SVZ series laptop. I think the motherboard died-- on power up there were no lights except for the power indicator light. No Beeps, no Bios, no hard drive access. Fan would turn on and run like it was about to explode, but nothing. Repair shop took it apart WOW, those are small, small parts). They think the motherboard is dead but the SSD should be ok. The drive is a MZRPC256HADR.

I've tried to find a replacement laptop to swap out the drives but I cannot find another SVZ model anywhere. And I'm not the "soldering" type. Any other suggestions? I'd really like to get the data off this drive.

Thank you.

Full pin - A+A-B-B+, B2+B2-A2-A2+

hello,

I have a similar problem.

A friend of mine has a Sony VPCSA3C5E, broken.
It can't power-on due to motherboard issue.

Ok, I want to retrieve all the personal datas from the harddisk but I found a big surprise..

The two ssd Samsung in RAID mzrpa128hmcd have special flat connectors...
I counted 29 pin on each interfaces, but all the LIF-to-sata adaptors I found on the web are with 22 or 24...

I need to retrieve the datas.. but I don't know how to do...

any ideas? thanks

I'm having the same issues...
Sony SVZ1311C5E just died, tried getting the MZRPC256HADR hard drive to recover my data, but I can't seem to find a connector/adapter.

It seems to be a LIF with 30 pins.

Any help please?
Thank you

I ended up buying a used Z-series system (from forum member "Lovelaptops") and then I had someone swap my SSD with the one in that unit. I was then able to get all my data off AND I have a working unit to use until I find a new laptop.

The process of taking apart the case and putting it back together has made it feel a little "flimsy" so I'm using it as a desktop right now. I suppose I could sell you this one once I've gotten a replacement system, but I'm not sure how soon that would be and I'm not sure how many more times the case can be disassembled and reassembled-- it's so "fragile."

By the way, the used system was not the exact model-- it was a VPC-Z22 (second generation?) and I had a SVZ13 (third generation?). But it all worked perfectly, I'm happy to say.

PM me when you decide to sell it with an asking price. I would be interested to purchase it.
Don't break it though, please. Hahahaaa.

In case you can find a second one for a cheap price or decide to sell this one, please hit me up :)

Ok. As soon as I can find a suitable replacement system, I'll sell mine to labtech and the s/he can sell it to Cryo. Sort of a "pay it forward" repair plan. :)

I'll keep you up to date.

Hello,

Unfortunately those that helped resolve the issue above did so through PM's (private messages). I think several other probably have similar items. Anyway I am also looking to adapt a SSD drive to a computer hopefully Sata connections.

Here are some pics of my SSD and cable connection.

Well it looks like things don't move very fast here. Sort of like a third world village that has little concepts of time and schedules. I'm patient, but just have to observe the humor of this.

From what I understand this hard drive will need to use one 3.3v power supply and it will need TWO individual raid data connections to the mainboard or card and whatever RAID setup the drive is setup for.

That connector board will be good for one Raid connection, you will need another and then find away to solder the connections together.
