Hi guys.

As always on this board I'll start my topic with 'I have a hard disk drive...' :)

I have a one year old Seagate HDD:

ST31000528AS 1TB Barracuda 7200.12
Firmware: CC38
S/N: 5VP3KCT5

My hard drive was working in RAID 0 mode with another one :(

Few days ago the drive decided to be invisible in BIOS (in two computers on different sata cables and with different psu's).
It's sounds good when it's starting (the same noises in the same time as the other 1TB Seagate starting), no clicking etc.
The drive seems to spin up normally. I've never dropped this HDD.
This drive was the storage one so there's some sentimental data on it.

If there's someone who could guide me with diagnosing or/and trying to revive this drive it will be much appreciated.
After this happened this drive is just sitting here and nobody was trying anything with it.
I've purchased a usb terminal for diagnosing it and I'm searching and reading any info that I cold find on this matter.
I'm not going to do anything without you guys guiding me through new info on this HDD.

The last thing I've planned when all other will fail is to try a 7200.11 BSY bug method (Yes, I know that there's a 0,01% percent chance that this will help).

Peter

Sorry for my bad English...

It has been reported in this forum, by data recovery pros, that the "7200.11 BSY bug method" also works for 7200.12 models.

At the very least you could retrieve a terminal report from it.

It shouldn't "click" in this state, most probably a faint click during calibration 8)

You might like to ask the DR guys if the following test procedure applies to your model.

How to Test Seagate Drives' Heads for HDD Repair:

Thanks to all you guys for advices.
Thank you ROb. You saved my day and helped me out. All my data is back.. for the moment. The drive is readable right now but I guess it will die in a very short time after all. Backup in progress... Done. Gonna upgrade firmware to CC49
Code:
http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=213891

and will see.
Considering RAID1 :)

Cheers

The 7200.11 process involves SMART, the 7200.12 often do not allow working with SMART so actually the processes are different.
