it's a huge step . i realize what time & mind & money you invest in this project & how the resources and a technical papers on initio is so rare.

Dr.Kiev

For some reason, i got your point and it works very well. (will not do it for others)

here again files are ready for you to download and confirm :smokers: :druunk: :druunk:

sorry for the delay again man.

good luck

Great work with what you did and to all the people that helped you out.

You crazy Mad Man, you did it, you managed to "Change the Lock on the door" & opened it with the key you already had.
very impressive, & very creative, also i had forgot about softice. great job, & excellent, work. have happy new year cheers

thnx guys, u 2

well, you can call it, Master Key heheh

thnx again guys

For those who wished me Good Luck last year, well guess what, it did not work last year (hehe) i will accept your Donations this year (might work this time). heheh

If you've truly done what you said you did, I have to say that I am impressed but I do find it hard to believe that you've managed to trick or bypass AES encryption.

Do you provide this service if I were to send you a locked drive -- would you be able to recover its contents? Have you thought about possibly presenting this at one of the various security conferences?

The technique described by einstein9 is not a generic bypass for AES - it is specific to the Smartware functionality. That is where the weak point is, not in AES.

Very agree!! Not only WD Smartware but also Buffalo SecureLockManagerEasy could be used the same solution.
I can handle both of them . Of course to skip password only, not defeat the AES.

connection points on the board and reading the correct data lines so it can bypass the encryption on the drive to read the data correctly
so no password is needed.

nice work for sure a lot of thought and time has gone into this and reverse engineering is the key.

i showed my father and he has a good idea how its is done. ;)
but do you have some more wires missing in the photo lol

good luck :)

western digital who develop this program release the how to
only to there main business partners which is ontrack and kroll

but again
Cracking 256 bit encryption is no trivial task and can be done if you want too

but again the solution is you simply don't need the password you go throu the backdoor
no password is needed then :)

its a really crap idea if your drive goes down your fooked

In this instance you open the book but find there is nothing to read

In the video maybe you should have made it clear that you typed in random characters, not the real (known) password.

There are many ways to successfully attack AES, only a valid reason is needed...

So why make the video to show it and not release a tool. I have a drive that I can't get data off of that I could really use that tool to at least attempt data retrievel. Please help :-(

It is really funny einstein9, you did not accept my point that it was doable and many DR companies are doing it already and it has nothing to do with the AES algorithm.Probably next time you should do your homework a bit carefully, but anyway better late than never ;)

hehe you made me laugh my dear
based on your comments here: post131820.html#p131820

i realized that you have no experience with those smartware drives,
and with new users with 20 posts i dont have time to sit n read your useless comments, waste of time.

thank you

Actually it was me who laughed a lot when I read you comment here #p134544 . And I cannot see what was wrong with my comment I said I am sure it is doable and it is just a matter of time to know how it works, probably you do not understand english?.
Of course It is up to you to read my comments or not, but I wanted to give you an advice from a more experienced engineer, do not dismiss things out of hand unless you know what you are talking about. Anyway good luck with your late findings.
