Not much hope there, especially getting guidance about this topic in open on the forum

Best case for you is to search for a professional who actually has plenty experience to attempt this.

Unless others want to recommend somebody - doubt it will happen...

Hello,
Can someone pleas guide my into unlocking a selflocked drive using WD Smartware with hardware encryption?
It just happened without setting any password and i really need my data back, i got my hole life there , family pics and memories... please help. Thank you.

Re: For those who had DOUBT in my Smartware Solution

Not really. There are way too many fault variables to determine what exactly has caused the locking status.

Need professional assistance with that. Choose wisely where you are sending your device because most novices can't address this type of issue. The more inexperienced hands mess with drive, the less recovery chances there will be.

Best wishes.

Locking status can be caused by faulty usb cable or usb connector. I've heard there are some ways to bypass the initio 1607e chip by removing some capacitors and connect other sata module or einstein9's modified unlock.exe from smartware virtual drive backdoor. I've been googleing for the last 4 days and i can't find anything. Any help would mean so much to me... Thank you for your reply.

You are playing with fire. Few incorrect steps and say goodbye to the data forever. Look for a pro in your area if it worth something.

If you want the data, then do not format.

For everything else, read the thread and you will understand.

It's quite an outstanding solution, whereas, any other involves disassembling the drive. Truth be told, my WD my passport won't accept the password I set for it, and I don't have the kind of money to recover my data, but also cannot loose the info on my drive. Is there any way to get something like this to unlock my drive and change the password  ?

Thanks in advanced for any information.

I have a government owned WD Passport Drive that has had issues with the usb connection at the drive and self locked.

Can anyone provide a solution besides the take it to a Pro if its important?

The govt is not going to pay to get my my data recovered and because of the nature of our work I surely can't send it anywhere if they would.

Einstein9, I have a forensic need for your fix. I am a police officer and currently investigating a major crime where I need access to a drive, Please PM me for more information on my case and how I can possibly obtain information to unlocking one of these drives. Thanks

Josh

Dear Josh, and all the others who sent me PM`s about this:

1st. as i said many many times, NOT FOR SALE, SHARE or anything, i`ve been PAID in advance for good, and you guys cannot afford it (no joke) (only 2 here knows by WHOM)

2nd. for those who CLAIM that they have forensic cases, Gov. needs...etc and so on (sorry no bad feeling) but you guys have special Dep. who can handle such cases regardless of the details.

just wanted to say, again and most probably last comment on this topic:

IT IS NOT FOR SALE, SHARE, DISCUSS. anymore

so whatever is your case (Generally Speaking) there is always a way without my help on this, and sure you know where.

Good luck guys (all)

thank you

Every case is forensic in his own way... there's no way to prove it, anyone would tell a lie to get their important data back... i think it's a matter of choice or luck :) einstein9 can choose how to share his tool just by personal wish. Good luck anyway , i need some too :)

einstein9 Solution is a solution that is not for sale and can't be use by anyone except einstein9 and maybe a few others. So it's not a solution, it's just a "It's Possible to do it if you believe that i've done it" sort of thing.

Apart from that you can think of it as something that doesn't exist, and can't be used. The only value on einstein9 solution is the possibility that at least someone (if we trust einstein9 and i don't see any reason not to) have cracked it.

It's like, just because someone went to the moon it doesn't mean that we can go too, or hire a trip on a rocket.

But .... if someone can do it, it can be repeated too, if it's really possible to solve the "problem", then someone with better knowledge and strengh of will can crack it too.

There is no crack all solution for WD

There is no one "method" for cracking WD encrpytion, but there are proprietary hardware/software solutions.

In fact, if you don't have a proprietary hardware/software methods that are more or less universal for this issue you're about 2 years behind data recovery labs who do.

Moreover, and no disrespect to the original poster, there is at least 1 lab that i know of that provides this solution commercially to consumers and businesses and not exclusively for forensics/litigation purposes.

I believe the last case that I know of with a smartware/psd issue was done for $745 USD total cost and another with failing Heads and lost smartware password was $1043 USD total.

It is not by any means a "forensic only" issue, though to be fair at the time this thread was started it was a new thing.

BTW, I've been a long time lurker to this site, and I'm pretty sure some of the Russian engineers from the lab I use read these forums regularly so I have the utmost respect for einstein, dr-kiev and the rest here.

Tyr
