Firmware will not help you do that I'm afraid.

Specialist tools are required to access the Service Area of the drive and unlock it, without these tools (and the knowledge on how to use them) you will not be able to unlock your drive.

Domanda molto semplice : quanto sei disposto a spendere (assumendoti TUTTE le responsabilita' circa la proprieta' del disco o di cio' che contiene) ?

Simple question : how much are you willing to spend (assuming ALL responsibilities about property of the disk / data) ?

OK, so you want to learn. That's cool :)

One thing for sure: firmware update can not unlock this drive. Why ? As long as the user ATA password is activated, you can not do anything to the drive, until you remove it.

Well, if you want to learn (which is a good thing, in my opinion), you should understand firstly what firmware is, where it is stored, and how to access it :
newbie-info-from-and-for-newbies-about-firmware-etc-t6562.html

After you figure out everything about it, you should do other reading for several threads/posts from this forum. A good idea is to search this forum using several keywords : ATA password, unlock drive, ATAPWD. These keywords will surely give many results.

Read them carefully, mainly posts concerning Seagate drives (same brand as yours) and make notes, draw a conclusion from all of these. Practice all the knowledge you find out to other drives for experiment.

Hopefully, after you read and learn much in this process, you will figure out how to unlock your drive, whether it's going to be possible or impossible - and - if possible with what and how to do it safely or if it's impossible what the reasons are.

There is a good reason why the answer is not simply plain and easy. You might won't like it, but knowledge of this (removing ATA password) can be harmful in wrong hands. That's why it's not for public forum :)

May you find something useful from this post.

Is about 3 months i'm studing about "Ata password" ecc :-)
My target is not unlock and read the hdd, but format-unlock the drive to use it on a new PC (without special tools.. Only a "Working" rs232 to hdd interface..)

I have tried:
SeaDiv (to read SA of the hdd...not compatible)
ZUbetta (i can't understood if it work properly)
access to hdd with hyperterminal (working.. but is not possible unlock drive without password........)

Bye!

Ok, within 3 months may be you have read something. But the way I see it, by posting this thread, now you are going to wrong direction.

I think you have not read carefully enough, that's why you did not find the correct solution

If you are talk about reflash FW, i now that is the way for some "Special" hdd... (some Seagate drive, right?)
I will try with rs232 interface, i think is probably the "Right way" to unlock, but i see some videos about PC3000 and to reset ata password there is always a "Short" or a "Ground" "operation.. (pulldown/up a input at the right time.. easy :-)

Right?

Bye!

P.S. @BlackST... e chi molla, sto cominciando ora a divertirmi!!

Don't limit yourself to PC 3000 "capability" only. You don't have it, so it's not the solution you need. Research and test with what you have.

PC 3000 = commercial solution
Research = learning process

Let's put it this way : You can travel from town to town by train, car or bus (= PC 3000), but actually you can also travel on foot or bicycle (= research).

I think I've made myself clear.
