Hi,
I have a problem with a Seagate Barracuda LP ST32000542AS firmware CC94,
I can not get into terminal mode with the command Crt + Z .. I think there is a short to do on the PCB ...

This disc seems to have problems with head ... But I tried to replace them with no positive results .... I think there are problems with firmware.

Per curiosità come hai cambiato le testine e dove, e da cosa hai dedotto che i problemi erano testine e firmware?
How and where did you change the HSA and how the problem was diagnosed to be heads and/or FW?

The question still stands, how did you change the head stack? Do you have prior experience? Equipment? Know-how?

Agreed most likely damaged.

lulux69,

To answer your question about the shorting points:
If you look at the pre amp connection points on the PCB you will see a pair of tracks going to the right side of the LSI chip.
Follow the pair of tracks from the preamp connections & you will see 2 test points. You will need to see where they are on the otherside of the PCB.

Remember your accepting all the risks involved when trying DIY.

Agreed

It's the (Winbond 25x) 8 legged chip near the bottom right on the photo.

Thanks so much guys....

Another question related to this.

I have an ST32000542AS which was working well, when one day it just suddenly died...no clicking... no spinning..nothing. I ordered a replacement PCB at donordrives.com ( I actually discovered this site through them) and then I replaced the pcb.

After replacing....Voila! it spinned, unfortunately, i then heard a clicking sound for a few seconds at the start up while it was spinning... the difference is that...it will click only on the start up then it will disappear...and the spinning will stop..

The same thing will happen if you power it off and on again...it will spin then click for a few seconds.....

Is this due to the incompatible ROM? or is the head already damaged?

Yes, incompatible ROM. Have to resolve PCB issue and then test the heads to find if heads are a problem as well.

Did you order PCB with ROM transfer or without?
Edit: I see labtech was first.

without sir, i just ordered a donor pcb, I was hoping it would not need a ROM transfer anymore. Besides the site is US based while I am in Asia so it will take weeks or months if I will ship the hard drive back and forth

This is a quite old topic and propably my post is not much helpfull for the user that asked. However there is an interesting video on youtube about how to repair a Seagate Barracuda LP series HDD that is not recognised by BIOS or OS with just a few clicks.
I believe that some less advanced users with same issue that will come to this post, will find this solution usefull. Actually drives like Barracuda ES, Barracuda ES.2 , Barracuda DM001, 7200.12 series and more, with similar symptoms can be repared the same way.
