Hi,

We have a Samsung model HM641JZ with a date code of 2011.04. The PCB number is S3M_AS_REV.02 with an MCU of 88i9122-TFJ2 and a ROM (what I'm assuming is the ROM) of AMTEL 25DF041A.

The drive spins up and sounds fine, and the light on-board the PCB turns from blue to green then stays steady. However, the drive never IDs or even detects in Device Manager, and in Linux the device never detects either. Does anyone have any suggestions for this (further diagnostic suggestions or thoughts on a prognosis)? It doesn't appear anything is visibly wrong with the board, as all leads appear to still be attached and no components are noticeably burnt.

Thanks,

These drives are somehow quiet. If you put your ear next to it when powered on, do you maybe hear some faint clicks?
Does the drive spin down after a while?

Thanks for the reply. The drive never spins down and with an ear pressed to the drive, no clicking is heard.

This is strange.
Either a f/w error occured on your drive, or there is some other problem.
I believe this is a USB3.0 with embedded USB on the board?
Are you by any chance trying to connect this through the front USB deck of your machine? (ie. on the front panel or through a USB hub). I see this very often, these drives not to work well on the front panels or through a hub.
Did you try on another PC?

Yes, the drive does have the embedded USB on the board, and the board appears healthy. We have plugged the drive into multiple machines, none of which, to my knowledge, have been on the front panel of the computer. We've even tried using multiple 3.0 USB cables, just in case.

Then I'm sorry, a thorough evaluation must be done by a pro.

I suggest you contact member jono-ats he is in Atlanta, and can do this for you.
