ISTM that your problem could be a logical one. The USB-SATA bridge electronics is obviously working, and the fact that you can see the SmartWare stuff at the end of the drive means that the drive is essentially functional.

I suspect that DMDE probably can't read sector 0 because of some Windows protection issue. You may need to give yourself administrator privileges.

I have to totally disagree. It's likely a bad sector issue and/or issue with the encryption (possibly unable to read key sector). Need PC-3000 to handle this case.

I suggest you ship it to Sean at PCImage.co.uk and see if he can do anything with it now.

I think I can help with your drive, depending on what you mean by
"my key has been corrupted". The key is stored on a block near the
end of the disk, and can be accessed with the right tools. I use linux,
and with it have extracted the keys and decrypted two WD disks so
far. One had the JMicro chip and the other the Symwave chip. I have
instructions on how to extract the key for the Oxford and Initio chips
also.

I've been successful in decrypting some WD drives after they have been
removed from the enclosure and the encryption board removed. You say
that your key has been corrupted, but can you send me a copy of the
keyblock (near the end of the raw disk, in a new enclosure that does not
use encryption) and a copy of the first 1MB of the disk (so that I can
know if I succeed in decrypting the MBR)?
