Hey everyone,

I have a ST32000542AS in my desktop. I noticed there was a firmware update available (CC35), so I applied it but a couple of days ago the drive suddenly seemed to have failed.

Linux can't detect it, I see the SATA controller getting reset instead.
I thought I'd connect to the "debug" terminal, and see what's happening there, but I don't actually get any output when hitting CTRL+Z. I have tested using another 7200.12 drive if I am connecting correctly, and indeed I am, so I'm thinking the PCB is dead.

I'm not concerned about the data about the drive, so I was wondering, if I switch the PCB out, and the drive works, is this only suitable for data recovery or can it be used as a genuine method to repair a drive?

I was successfully able to create a dump of the BIOS chip of the drive, so I can restore it onto a new PCB. Is there anything I should try before replacing the PCB?
