Hello everyone,

I got 2 "D3 Station Desktop drive":http://samsunghdd.seagate.com/gb/en/

I partitioned one to use it to record programs on my Samsung TV.
-A small ntfs partition with a software that lets me export the recordings to my PC
-A big partition that the TV formats in ext4 for the recordings.

I have done this with other hdds and everything always worked fine.

This time instead I was able to do just one recording, switched TV off, turned it on later on and the HDD spinned but was not recognized.
I attached it to my x64 Windows 8.1 Pro PC (My specs: http://prntscr.com/2m0h0n) and Windows doesn't see it (it should ask to format the ext4 partition and see the ntfs one).
It's not seen in "Computer Management", nor in "Device Manager", nor in Diskpart.

I tried to "see" the drive through Knoppix and it's still invisible.

As I said, as soon as i plug the data cable, the drive starts spinning fine, without any strange sound, either in my PC or the TV and powers off if I unplug said data cable.

Anything I can attempt?

Thank you.

Its either an issue of the internal electronics of the "box" (which is nothing
else than a case/frame with an internal USB to SATA adapter) or an issue
of the internal (standard) harddisk.

If the data is not of big value for you and you can reproduces it in some way,
forget that drive and buy a new one.

Otherwise ask a data recovery pro to have a look on that dirve

but - if data is of value for you - dont turn that drive on any more - and avoid
any kind of "experts" (family, collegue, friend of a fried etc....).

Does this drive have a separate USB-SATA bridge board, or is the bridge integrated onto the HDD PCB?

Hello falther, thanks for the help.

The data is not important and the disk is brand new so I can have it replaced but i was hoping i could avoid the all warranty process which still has some costs\time involved.

Hi fzabkar, thanks for replying.

I am not sure I get your question.

I looked at images of USB-SATA bridge board and HDD PCB and I guess the answer is that I cannot access those parts.
Apart from breaking the case, and voiding the warranty, I don't see any way to access those components.

Thank you.

If your warranty is more important than your data, then there is really nothing you can do.
