Hello!

So my mom had a mishap with her laptop hard drive she said she dropped it from the bed on to carpet flooring and it wouldn't start up anymore.
I brought the laptop home and sure enough its just stuck on the Windows 7 Start up screen.

So i have tried several things to try and recover data from this hard drive as she has a bunch of pictures which she would like to recover. She has now learned an important lesson on backing up data! :(

When i plug in the hard drive to my desktop computer the bios does recognize it and i'm choosing to boot my OS using my good hard drive, however it halts on the windows 7 loading screen and just stays there

I have downloaded and tried using UBUNTU also UBCD (ultimate boot cd). I attempted to mount the drive but i get errors saying to run chfsk on the drive but i'm not able to do that.

I have also tried running the Windows 7 installation disk installer to try and do the hack around where you use command prompt to open a notepad and then copy files to thumb drive but it freezes on loading up windows 7 setup before i can choose a restore point.

I'm not exactly sure what options i have left on this. Its just weird that bios does recognize the drive but i can't do anything with it.

I know there's an option to make a disk image using ddrescue but i'm having issues getting parted magic to even load.

Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated!

Thanks have a nice day!

Your Mom hard drive has now reading error... because she dropped it! in most dropped cases the hard drive heads touch the platter and the drives gets knocking but your cases is little different your Mom dropped the hard drive on carpet which save the 350 Gs shock Luckily. Now upon my experience the hard drive shock around 250 Gs the heads touch the platter and it has now miner read problem which is possible recoverable... However if you send your drive to me I can recover the data without any charge only because this is your Mom drive you have to pay shipping only. HDD Guru's also help you without charges or with minimum charges. I also advise you to stop experiments on this drives because the drive get damaged more and more day by day.
