Hello. ( thanks Michael i have emailed you)

I received the new donor today , but unfortunately the drive still clicks. and the bios does not see the drive.

so I presume the preamp is damaged and I need to replace the head stack.

I have a dust free environment box, the type you put your arms through and a glass panel to see through.
so I could attempt a repair, if i had the correct parts and tools.

I think I need to find a duplicate working drive and also a special tool to prevent the heads from touching.

It may be worth a try one day.

: )

I'm sorry that your hard drive still has other problems.
Yes, very likely the pre-amp is burned because i have found on your original pcb the following issue:
1) SMOOTH chip burned (VCM controller).
2) Shorted D3 (5 volt TVS diode).
3) Open R67

You can't fix pre-amp, anybody can't fix. The only way to recover your data is to send the drive to some DR with clean room so that they can change heads.
I'm sorry :(

If data are really important don't change head stack on your own, let do it to pro.

Hello teerp,

I doon't know from where you are, but I think that yould be the best way to found pro DR near you to recover your data. Otherwise you will spend a lot of money and final result will be, that data will gone and you will have some new knowledge about datarecovery and tools.
Good luck
