Bad subject line, I know. I have an Acer Aspire M3970 that I bought new less than two years ago. No warranty anymore on anything. Apparently, the HDD is going bad. Tests say bad sectors that cannot be repaired. Still runs perfectly but, getting a faint buzzy/grindy sound now. The HD in there now is a Western Digital WD10EADX 22TDHB0 1TB. Can't even last two years?

I have an old Dell Inspiron 530 with a 500GB HD, and I'm wondering if there would be any problem putting that in the Acer. Since it's older I can't find much in the way of specs. Don't know manuf. Dell? Will any HD fit in any computer as long as it is the same physical size? I would rather have something better than a Dell HD but, just can't afford it.

I may kinda sound like I know a bit about computers but, it is really mind boggling that it took me over 8 hrs today to figure out how to get a system image onto a flash drive! Which I am hoping has Win7 on it. I'm just blathering now. So, do you guru's think I can stick a Dell HD in my Acer? Thanks much for any help!

No problem, you can use any harddrive you want in the Acer, as long as you have the right interface...i.e Sata or Pata (ide).
Just put the drive in and reinstall.

Acer Aspire M3970 uses a 2,5" HDD and Dell Inspiron 530 uses 3,5" HDD, no maching size.

you can not use Dell drive on acer notebook becuse not not maching size.

Hi hhddrec,

The op does say that the Acer currently has in it a WD10EADX 22TDHB0 which is a 3.5" SATA drive
A quick search for Acer Aspire AM3970 shows this as a desktop PC not a slimline type.
