I have seagate 2GB st2000dm001, firmware cc4b, PCB 100664987 rev b.

but the PCB is dead, it does not transmit current to disk.

and the eeprom is broken, the 2nd pin is open, have no measurement.

what shoul I do?

Should I buy a new PCB donor? and which eeprom I need? shoul I get a new eeprom and then update the firmware?

is it possible to repair it? how? where?

is it possible to get an universal bios (generic?)
where?

do you have solution for my problem?

What do you mean with eeprom? Do you mean the rom chip on the pcb?
If your rom chip is broken data are lost.
Can you do some pics of your pcb?

We need picture of your pcb to see if there any evident damages on components.
Don't touch the rom chip, it's not the problem!

Check if TVS diodes on the pcb are shorted with diode tester of your multimeter (with power supply off).
If TVS are shorted you can try to unsolder them, if this doesn't work then you have to change pcb and swap the rom (in this case don't swap the rom by your own because if you destroy it then you'll lose data forever), if rom swap is necessary ask to someone which knows how to do it safely (i can do it for you).

If your ROM chip is broken there is not solution for this particular case.

You need to resolder the original ROM in donor PCB, but if one pin is lost, you need specialized service because may be, and not too much, with nano soldering there is a chance to repair the original ROM chip wich is very complex and need tools and expertise.

Otherwise, the data is lost.

I went to specialized service and they said me, "the eeprom is dead". I attach a generic picture of my PCB. In red the chip that specialized service call eeprom.

is that the rom chip?

is that the bios?

very difficult that rom dies, usually if happens is because customer plays with it (and you played with it)!
Very likely you shorted rom pins by touching them with multimiter while you were doing voltage check on it.

Unless you know what you're doing, you really have no business sticking a multimeter on a PCB, especially when it's powered on.

Send it to a pro in your country (perhaps Michael Chiklis who commented above) and let them try to read the ROM (what you keep calling eeprom) code so as to program another board.

This is probably not a DIY situation.

In the worst case, a PCB replacement plus firmware transfer should cost no more than US$50.

You still have not shown us a photo of your PCB. Is there any reason for that?

Seagate's boards are usually very well protected by the TVS diodes. Have you measured the TVS diodes and zero-ohm resistors? Are you certain that you can trust the "specialized service"? As others have said, it is very rare for the EEPROM to be damaged (data recovery people incorrectly refer to the serial flash memory chip as a "ROM").

my story:

one day my HDD stopped working. I took it for specialized service and they detected no current PCB came out to disk. Then, they did the traditional change of rom chip to a new donor PCB. and that did not work.

they measured my bios rom pins and could not measured the 2nd pin.

in the next few days I will send my PCB photo. sorry for the delay.

Have they returned back your pcb with your original rom chip?
Your original rom chip is very important, without it would be impossible to recover any data.

I have the bad feel that they have messed up with your rom chip, i would like to know who they are to see if really are "specialized service" as you wrote.

The original rom bios is in a new PCB that gives power to the HDD but windows does not recognize it. neither windows nor linux can see the data.

It was difficult to remove the PCB and take the super macro pics.

If drive with new pcb spins without any clicking sounds it means that rom transfer worked good.
If you can't see the drive in windows it means that there is another issue elsewhere on the drive.

Is the drive with new pcb and original rom detect in the computer bios?

Sorry for my inconsistencies.

I called again to the tech service for clarify me, they said:

First:
My HDD with old PCB and with the rom bios: no current to HDD.

Later:
My HDD with new PCB donor and without my rom bios: current to HDD without clicking sounds.
My HDD with new PCB donor and with my rom bios: no current to HDD. That's why they think the problem is rom bios.

Another test:
My HDD with similar PCB and with similar rom bios: current to HDD but windows does not recognize it, of course.

What should I do?

you can't repair broken pin (or very difficult) but i can recover your rom content for reasonable price with special tools and then write it on donor rom chip (of course if the broken pin is the only problem).
If your rom chip is also burnt then no one can help you.

P.S.
I know only one guy in this forum that maybe is able to rebuild rom if chip is burnt, he is "dmarques" (in Portugal) but this job is very expensive!
