Is any hope for my WD elements 2TB usb3.0?

September 10th, 2014, 21:39

My WD elements 2TB usb3.0( WDBU6Y0020BBK-01) died several days ago. There are important data in it. Before I pay $$$$ to the pro Data recover. I'd like to know is any hope for me to get it back?

LED blinks about 3 time a second. After several minutes, it may blink once a second.
The first 3 or 4 minutes, there is a click noise every one minute. Then it disappeared.

I am a electronics engineer, can do all kinds of soldering.

thanks

Just probe the 5v on the hdd's pcb. It's only 4.73v. Is this a problem?

Thanks

most important:

1. What happen to the drive, does it fell down ?
1. does it spin up ?
2. can you hear clicking or abnormal noise ?

if you really have important data on it, better send it to a Pro company to avoid further complication.

1 no drop. only a bit corrosion on the contacts(on pcb), because the weather is wet here and very close to the sea.
2 it spins up
3 there is a click about every one minute. sometimes the click will stop after several minutes.

----------------------------------------------------------
this afternoon , I clean the corrosion, baked the pcb in oven for one hour. Then the first time windows shows the drive's capacity! But I still can not read any data.

My plan is: if it's pcb issue, I will fix it by my self. If it's the head or firmware issue I think I have to pay.

I appreciate any professional opinion.
thanks

I think your problem is not about PCB. I think is Heads problems or FW problems.
better contact with local Pro.

I totally agree, this is not a DIY case.

Can I buy another wd elements 2TB ? and swop the pcb? do I need to swop the flash chip?
I can not find the same version on the market. Mine is

are they compatible?

thanks

If you wish to try a PCB swap, I would look for an equivalent SATA PCB (same MCU and same motor controller) and transfer the flash chip at U12, if it exists. It probably won't fix your problem, but at least you will then be able to try some firmware tools. Note that Elements models are not encrypted.

Perhaps this board (2060-771692) might be a possible substitute:

Thanks a lot.
There are two winbond serial flash on my board. One is u12.
You mean If I swap to sata board, I can use firmware tool without special equipment?
Is there any firmware tool download link? Thank again.

thanks a lot.
Do you mean I can use some sort of firmware tool to talk with the sata board without any professional equipment?
Where I can get the software?

thanks again

Sorry, 2060-771692 looks like a completely different board.

Instead this SATA board looks like it might be compatible:
http://www.hdd-parts.com/14060482.html (2060-771931)

It uses the same MCU (88i9446-NDB2) and motor controller (Nautilus).

Your board appears to be a 2060-771961. See the bottom side:

http://ep.yimg.com/ay/yhst-144375849714 ... 4146-5.gif

As for firmware tools, there are a few:

http://sediv2008.narod.ru/Easy3.9Passwo ... 567890.rar (SeDiv, demo version)
http://wdmarvel.com/ru/ (WDMarvel, free demo or US$9 for 1 month licence or US$100 for full version, English GUI)

plus others ...

I have an "Exception EOleSysError in module in module SeDiv.exe at 000E2941" when I run the program. Doesn't work with W7 64 bits?

Can anyone send me a firmware for this hdd?

Hard drives firmware don't work in that way, firmware is unique for each drive.
If you flash entire firmware from another drive, you will kill it and you will lose data for ever.

Anything you do from here forward is only going to make things worse. I suggest you send your drive to a data recovery professional or, if you don't want to pay our rates, send it to Frank who will do it for $20.

At this stage,DIY is not the best solutions for you if you think the data is vital. Send it to pro's,they do have the exact tools and knowledge to fix this

thanks for all recommendation above.
I know some of the modules in every hdd is unique.
For my knowledge, I can boot the hdd into safe mode and load some module into the ram. Is that correct?
I just want to read the modules not writing for formatting anything in SA.
