Good afternoon!
First I want to congratulate the forum and all members, has much of interest, tips, various articles,
I hope to contribute what little I know the course, my name is Carlos and I live in Brazil.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This and my first post, already with a huge problem in my hd Seagate Barracuda

-> HD Specifications:

SATA 2TB Seagate Barracuda
ST2000DM001
9YN164-306
CC4H WU
100664987 REV B 3.5 ''

-> Caused / observed error:

- Suddenly stopped
- Is not recognized on the computer
- To connect it in slave mode the computer does not start

-> Researched, may be the problem

Fact 1) at about 6 months ago I thought it was the source of the chattering computer at the office
entailed that noise or something else, seemed once or twice a speeding car, check the noise below this link

http://www.4shared.com/mp3/TGkyp0iYce/h ... ange_noise

when removed the HD already defective the problem now has no more :( but on research on the internet I
saw some cases saying it may be the needle hitting al generates this noise.

Fact 2) then decided in haste open the HD :( reading here in the forum I realized that this procedure can not
be done, unless in a clean chamber, but finally see the video:

http://www.4shared.com/video/-HYED5Sfba ... _hd_aberto

- I think it should not be PCB, because of the noise present before the HD problem still see her pictures:

► What do you think, with the needle exchange could work, making this error to open my HD (hopefully
not bring damage by this hesitation), I need to recover the data contained therein, because they are important to me.

Thank you all;

Yet another opened DM drive in a non-clean environment :(

I'm very sorry but judging by the facts:

1) This is a DM drive
2) This is an opened DM drive
3) This is an opened in a non-clean environment DM drive
4) This is an opened in a non-clean environment DM drive that has been powered on without the lid on (or the screw on)
5) This is an opened in a non-clean environment DM drive that has been powered on without the lid on (or the screw on) and makes a scratching noise

...

The chances of recovery are very slim, even by a very good pro. Expect big bucks and a partial recovery (if any) :(
PS. The PCB is fine.
PS2. No, you can't exchange "needle" and it will not work.

Northwind, do you have alot of experience with DM series drives? I'm experiencing some servo Recov errors along with a sim error with a 3tb after a head swap.

It's common.
Start a new thread and post full terminal log. Maybe heads are incompatible, or perhaps you've done everything right and you've hit against the famous bug: It's called DM series.
