Hello all,

I have a death hdd hitachi for laptop 2'5 model HTS541612J9SA00, PN:0A53016, MLC:DA1753. I've purchased a new PCB the same model and all serials no. and after I replace the new PCB I hear the HDD spins but in BIOS don't appear I tried with Rack HDD Enclosure USB my wind 7 detect usb install the driver but don't autoplay for open the folder after I enter in My computer don't appear the hard drive partition.

I want to recovery some information from HDD. Last week my laptop was restarted the the HDD was completely death.

I've attache some photos with HDD.

I've read on some forums and I am not sure for replace rom chip (frameware) from old PCB to new PCB.

Anyone who know what should I need to do I will appreciate.

Best regards,
Rigodon

You have (MUST) to transfer the NVRAM from the old PCB to new one
(be careful not to destroy the chip)

NVRAM is at U6, but as "Jermy" says, be very careful.

It's a small chip, and easy to break. If you do break it, it makes recovery very very difficult and 10x more expensive.

We are assuming the original problem was that the drive didn't spin up at all?

Hi,

Yes the original PCB was death is no hear spin up the laptop was restarted and after was not detect any HDD after I replace the new PCB the HDD is spin up but not recognize in BIOS or connect with USB after I read on some forums I see on Hitachi is two rom chip and I see only one U6 with 8 pins , 4 on one side on other 4 pins.

Step 4. Example of PCB Replacement:

Examine your hard drive circuit board to see if a ROM chip exists. The ROM is usually an 8-pin chip (4-pins on 2 sides) marked as U12 on Western Digital, or U6 or U5 on Hitachi. There is usually only one 8-pin chip on a hard drive circuit board. You will likely find a number starting with 25 on the chip. Western Digital USB-powered PCBs and some newer, large-capacity Hitachi hard drives have 2 ROM chips, so feel free to swap both.

I'm not professional for change this chip and I am little scarred for try maybe I will go at electronics for do this.

it is for sure is only one chip for change?

Thanks for information
Rigodon

Assuming the PCB has same ROM version, then yes.

You can "usually" expect the PCB to have the same ROM version if the first two lines of the white sticker on the PCB match, but not always.

Happy to take a look and do the job for a reasonable fee if you want to send it up?

PM me if interested

Or Skype at pcimage212

yes all serial no. match.
1. Model: HTS541612J9SA00
2. P/N: 0A53016
3. MLC: DA1753
4. First 2 lines of white PCB label: 0A52026 DA1673_

This all details match but I've read on this forum http://www.donordrives.com/pcb-replacement-guide and said on Hitachi is two chip I see only one on PCB U6 with 8 pins and other one where is?

I've added you on skype from name Kai Jorn.

Thanks

I usually go by the recommendations on this site ...

http://www.hdd-parts.com/13022825.html

... but they simply refer to a "BIOS IC", so I don't know if they swap just U6 or both U6 and U3.
