I have a 3xWD2500JD-00HBB0. They are Caviar Falcon family which is not supported by PC3K. Drives just remain BSY in the Utility. The drives also will not read on a DDI, presumably because of the password protection. I have seen lots of posts about MHDD. Are these candidates bearing in mind I cannot read any sectors in the DDI. I probably should know this but have always used PC3000.

These drives are somehow similar to Eagle drives from Caviar family. And yes , there are some issues between these (Eagle) drives and DDI3 as far as I know. They say it on their forum long time ago.I don't know if DDI4 have the same problems with these drives or not.
As for PC3000 UDMA you should have no problem when working with them, unless they have another issues like firmware problems or bad heads or something else.
What the drives do on power up?..Spin up and stay spinning?...Spin up click and spin down?

Rgds

You can't do anything while the drive is in BSY state.
Try fix BSY issue first.

It's Eagle family. It's supported by PC3000: Western Digital -> Caviar 32 (SATA) -> Eagle

Any unusual sounds, clicking?...

BUSY bit is high, so drive will not process any commands/requests till it's high.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the replies. According to PC3K PCB database these are Falcoln family drives, but as you say very similar to Eagle. I have managed to get into two drives now. When starting the utility the drives go BSY, but if you leave it for about 5 minutes it does eventually initialize however with errors (see below)

Techno mode key:
HDD geometry loading.................... : Read zone info error; Drive is not ready
Cyl Count............................... : 87922
Head Count.............................. : 6
SPT..................................... : 268

RAM:
Zone allocation table................... : Error
Drive is not ready

Serial ROM:
ROM R/W Microcode loading error
Head map built using techno key data
Head map................................ : 0,1,2,3,4,5

Service area:
Modules table loading .................. : Ok (Copy 0)
Configuration loading................... : Ok
Master Password......................... : "WDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWD"
User Password........................... : "3wareUserPassword "
Translation overlay checking............ : Ok

I cleared the passwords and reset SMART. I could then get access to the modules that read 100%, however cannot make a resources backup it just hangs. There is no sector access via the utility, but one drive does read normally in DE. The second drive errored, but changing the block size to 8 makes it read. I have one more to go, hopefully without issues. I think this is all caused by the family not being totally supported in PC3K, however it does not explain why the DDI4 cannot read them.

Thanks for the help.
