Seagate Sentosa Family Terminal Issues

November 9th, 2015, 17:09

Has anyone else ever had a real hard time getting terminal access on a Sentosa family Seagate FreePlay drive?

I've got this one I'm working on. Model ST1500LM003. Donor ID'ed and had terminal access without issue.

But it doesn't seem there's any way to get terminal access unless the drive is fully initialized. This patient I'm working on, I've replaced PCB with ROM transfer using boot ROM code. I've even tried replacing the heads, but the drive just spins up, sounds like a pretty normal startup with no clicking etc. But only ID's as:

Model : ST_M13FQBL
Serial : QNR_BFW
Firmware : 04191200
Capacity : 3.86 GB (8 089 950)

Which I know is normal for just having the PCB attached without HDA. I've tried all the usual tricks of shorting the read channel at different times, isolating the motor, isolating the preamp, etc. But nothing seems to get me any terminal access.

And yes I have tested my terminal adapter on other known good drives to be sure it's still working.

Any ideas on this?

Sorry, forgot I already posted about this the other day. Still looking for a solution regardless.

Here's the patient ROM: https://gofile.me/6nc9a/YY9ZKSfD

And the serial of the drive is: Z110S4HP which can bee seen at offset 0x28410

Hi
Before replacing the head is it showing only the pcb info?
Or it shows some thing on the terminal?

After swap head the drive show any info in the terminal or not ?

Do you have good same product number drive ? If have then upload the rom to forum.

Before replacing the heads it was doing the exact same thing. I had already ruled out the PCB by programming a new one with the ROM, same result.

I've never been able to get anything in terminal with this drive, before head swap or after. The donor was as perfect a match as possible. Same part number, site, etc. even was built the very same day. I'm not at the office this minute, but later I can upload the donor ROM if you think it'll help.

This was two years ago. I can't even remember this case now given that I've probably handled 500 since it.
