Hello folks,

the USB Controller board had an oversurge. Electronical Part U5 (left top) seems to be faulty. As far as I have understood the case the drive seems to be some kind of hardware encrypted.

Is there a way to get the data back with repairing or even without repairing (identify the chip - desolder - solder new chip) the USB-Sata Interface?

As I understood it the encryption key is stored in the SA (module 25)?

maybe a stupid question..

I made an Image with ddresuce but somehow the following information means that it is useless. Isn't it? Is there a way to make an proper image and determine the encryption key and get the data back without repairing or replacing the usb-sata adapter?

get another interface board with same encryption chip. Or invest in some proper tools.

Guys, the board came (i ordered it on friday) and the data is already saved. Nevertheless I bought the blown dc stepdown converter because I'm that curious to fix the other board!

Maybe there might be another solution to fix the board - I'm checking that right now..

The DC-DC converter generates the +5V supply for the HDD. If all you wanted was your data, you could have solved the original problem with 3 wires. Just remove U5 by snipping its pins with flush cutters. Then run an external +5V supply from your PC's PSU to the load side of the 150 coil (L1). Also run an external +12V supply and ground from the same PSU to DC connector J3.

Of course an actual repair would be much more elegant.

Waking up some dry bones with this thread. I think by now Benjamin probably owns a PC-3000 and can handle these cases without fixing the bridge.

I was responding publicly to a PM which referenced this thread. Evidently there are people who prefer employing 3 wires rather than purchasing whatever hardware or software others may deem necessary.
