Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

I have a WDBFJK0040HBK-EESN external drive here and got a few questions about it. First I would like to take out the drive (WD40EZRX) and use it as an internal drive in my PC. Is this possible or do need to do any changes except initializing the drive in Windows (if it will be that easy)?
Second question is: can i put another drive in the My Book enclosure and use it as external drive?

1) Yes -- just reformat it.
2) Probably not. Since MyBook drives are usually encrypted, I don't think it will work. But, maybe -- worth trying (can't hurt anything assuming there is no data on the drive to begin with).

1. yes you can use the drive but you wont be able to recover data if this is what you want .
2. yes you can use Hitachi drive it should work.

No need to recover the data as I already have a backup. But I read numerous posts about the enclosure not picking up any other drive. Likely it is related to a hidden area on the disk that stores some info according to this document:
https://eprint.iacr.org/2015/1002.pdfWould it help to connect the original drive to a PC and dd the beginning and end of the "old" disk to the new one so the enclosure will accept it?

Thanks for your answers. But I read numerous posts that the enclosure of the My Book won't pick up any other drive at all. Is it neccessary to clone that "hidden" area from the original disk to the new disk?
I would really welcome feedback.
