This is from ace lab forum:

1: reading the original disk ROM
2: Read spare ROM
3: Load Spare disk ROM
4: Replace CAP RAP SAP
5: Load LOD, this process fails, wait one minute, do not de-energized.
6: re-power, again loaded LOD.
7: Start copying data

This may work on some particular firmware, so there's a reason to try, but for most cases you won't have the drive initialized properly on step 6 after resetting the power. Things will look like you're working with the donor SSHD and that's a dead end.

That's not true. We work with SSHDs and can take up this drive.
If SSD part failure is the only problem with it, fee will be very reasonable.

The basic problem with these drives is the SSD part losts adaptives in patient ROM. Thats why the SSD part of these drives are dead, and stays BSY state the drive.
So the solution is use patient CAP-RAP-SAP contents in donor ROM using donor PCB.
I have resolved my case with this method and got 100% data back.

Hello,
My disk is ST1000LM014 /DEMD
To try the 6 Step solution one needs the load the LOD but in my case SA is locked
we don't full access to SA The donor drive is not able to create the loader or copy DT
So how does one handle this drive
Any suggestions

You don't need LOD.
1. read ROM from patient PCB with boot mode code
2. read ROM from donor drive
3. create a hybrid ROM using donor PCB rom (copy patient CAP-RAP-SAP content into donor ROM image)
4. write the new hybrid ROM to DONOR PCB using boot mode code
5. start up patient with donor PCB (first or second, or third time the drive will not initilazie fine, be patient! Try some diagnostic test in terminal mode)
6. after the drive initialize itself and have sector access, start imaging drive

Can I replace rom integrated circuit from patient to donor? Or maybe can I replace whole pcb?

Patient and donor are same:
PN: 1EJ164-071
FW: LVD3

igen or saltwater, can anyone do this job for me? None of the local data recovery places could do it (I tried two). I want the data back for photos and uni files. I do not have equipment and experience to do this myself. You would get may gratitude and help (if I can help with anything, will show you around Sydney if anyone vist) plus reasonable costs for the repair.

My drive is:
ST1000LM014
1EJ164-305
FW SM25

can be emailed at robert.pawel.lipka gmail com

Can communicate in English or Polish, but sorry, not Hungarian :)

If you can find a technician to read and program your ROM, I can edit it for you as per saltwater's instructions:

Quote:

1. read ROM from patient PCB with boot mode code
2. read ROM from donor drive
3. create a hybrid ROM using donor PCB rom (copy patient CAP-RAP-SAP content into donor ROM image)
