Hitachi IBM 7250A7 RAM Issue

March 25th, 2016, 14:36

Had a few of these in with the same issue and normally a pretty quick fix. However with this drive I cannot upload PSHT and RDMT into RAM. I keep getting an error saying the module is not found. Modules are not being read at all (ABR error), however I can see the RPSH, USAG and MFGP in RAM. NV-RAM issue? Any ideas.

Have you tried uploading the PSHT or RDMT from a file instead of from SA?

Yes I have tried from the SA and from 4 different drives.

That's either bad heads or SA damage or non-original PCB (less likely). Drive can't read the SA and that's the first issue to overcome.

Generally should be recoverable, but can be not straightforward.

any one can help ?

I have a Hitachi in with the same symptoms, but 5475A9 series. USAG cannot be loaded. Using donor PCB or heads makes no difference. No unusual noises when drive is powered, heads sound smooth. I've seen a post on the AceLabs forum with an uncertain conclusion from tech support - that there is some media failure within the service area, but no way of testing because there is no alternative reading mode for Hitachi (e.g. kernel or hotswap).

Has anyone else come to a positive conclusion with one of these failures?

Best regards,
John

Most likely drive has problems with reading system modules. You need to have ability to work with loader. I can help you - pm me.

Wayne Man ,
You Are Theeee Expert In Hitachi ,I love Your Work In This I Have Seen Many Useful Posts From You in Regard To The Same Subject .To Confirm If Its a SA Read Issue Try Doing Same Thing in Same Family And Model Drive ,If That Works it Has To Be SA

A couple of people took a look at this but could not get any where. Then Igor at D3 was able to get the HDD to ID with working translator. Disk has been read OK, but plenty of degraded areas as expected. Thanks D3 Consulting.

There is a way to work with degraded areas. It's possible to tune up head adaptives. It's actually not a degraded areas it is problem with heads and adaptives.

yeah, adaptives play a major role in the recovery of most recent drives...

Hi
Please Check NV-ram, if your drive is returned from other DR companies.
some times the Data Recovery companies change NV-RAM bytes. which makes SA access not possible.

some companies Edit NV-RAM and make User Sector in access able (Like Change NVRAM hex offset D7E and DE4 to value 01 instead of 00 on 5432 laptop model will make all user sectors in access able, and also the FW area, no utility will read FW). but you can access NV-RAM if you connect only the PCB.

We face this same issue in Kuwait, all time the WD drive come from other companies are not able to show sectors, before its working fine.

also there is a Way to boot from head copy 1, on Hitachi Drives.

in your case don't know what happened. but check NVRAM and ROM, Mostly ROM of ARM will be damaged. due to which no thing will be found, and utilities gives errors

Hi Guys,

Have a similar case here. Have tried to load PSHT or RDMT from file, swap to donor PCB and change head map but the drive still does not ID. Does anybody have any ideas how to get the drive to ID right?

Thanks

Got similar here. Heads ok, PCB native:

Unlock techno mode access

Tech Mode is not locked!
Techno mode key......................... : Ok

Loading the table of "open" modules................................... : Error
Error : .............................................................. : Error executing loading "open" modules dir command

Any tips or solution for USAG available since last post in this topic? Drive comes DRD in 3-4seconds, no ID except FW.

Most likely broken system modules. You need to start drive from loader and find out what is broken and etc.

can be bad head(s)
try to read from the other copy (disable H0)

Heads are fine, tried to read both copies, no luck.
