I've got an ST3000DM001 that is constantly BSY. Doesn't allow for any access to terminal commands at all. It is firmware CC24 if that helps.

This is the output when the drive powers up...

Code:
Boot 0x40M
Spin Up
Trans.

Spin Up
SpinOK
(P) SATA Reset

LED:000000BD FAddr:0000988E
LED:000000BD FAddr:0000988E

It then slowly adds the LED:000000BD FAddr:0000988E line about every minute or two. So it will post what is above and then add

LED:000000BD FAddr:0000988E
Wait another couple minutes
LED:000000BD FAddr:0000988E
Wait another couple minutes
LED:000000BD FAddr:0000988E
etc.
etc.
etc.

That is all it will do.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? Any suggestions as to how to move forward with this? Please feel free to PM if you wish. Thanks!

The issue is with the media cache, possibly with the S.M.A.R.T. data. You'll need to short the read channel with careful timing to get terminal access, then disable everything in system file 93 and clear S.M.A.R.T.

Another 3TB Grenada...different drive, but very similar problem. This time, I'm having a big issue getting access to terminal control, and I'm not sure if it's just the timing of shorting the read channel, or something more.

The drive spins up and clicks 4 times and then stops and sounds normal. It actually almost sounds like it calibrates. I short the read channel right as the second "Spin Up" appears, but it doesn't do anything...I just get this...

Code:
Boot 0x40M
Spin Up
RECOV Servo Op=0100 Resp=0005
Trans.

Spin Up
SpinOK
RECOV Servo Op=0900 Resp=0005
RECOV Servo Op=0600 Resp=0005
(P) SATA Reset

LED:000000BD FAddr:0000988E
LED:000000BD FAddr:0000988E

If I start hitting hitting Ctrl-Z right as I short the read channel, I briefly get the prompt, before the drive locks up again. This is as close as I've been able to get to gaining access to terminal again. The drive had bad heads originally, but I swapped them out.

Code:
Boot 0x40M
Spin Up
RECOV Servo Op=0100 Resp=0005
Trans.

Spin Up
SpinOK
RECOV Servo Op=0900 Resp=0005
RECOV Servo Op=0600 Resp=0005
(P) SATA Reset

ASCII Diag mode

F3 T>
LED:000000BD FAddr:0000988E
LED:000000BD FAddr:0000988E

In your opinion, is this just an issue with the timing when it comes to shorting the read channel, or is it something else?

Just curious if anyone has any ideas on the issue listed above? Thanks!

hpw333, Hi, I have same problem as: https://forum.hddguru.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=34219
and noticed your offer to help. I would be interested to know how to fix so many similar problems with
all these "DM" series Seagate drives. Please reply as soon as possible how much you want payment, etc...

Thanks!

-Drew

In my experience "LED:000000BD FAddr:0000988E" is pretty much always one of the two. Or at least is resolved by addressing those two things.

Do you have a PC-3000? It'll be pretty hard to do it without one.
