Samsung HD204UI ATA Password Removal

Hi guys,

I recently purchased a Samsung HD204UI 2TB drive second hand, and I've discovered that it has an ATA password on it. I have tried to contact the seller about this as he apparently tested this drive for hours so surely he must know what the password is, however, he has not been very communicative to date, so my hopes are not high on that front!

Anyway, I've spent the last 5 hours or so trying a number of different utils and methods to either unlock or erase it, but so far have got exactly nowhere with it. Part of the issue is that the mainboard I am using for this doesn't have an 'IDE Compatibility' mode, so many tools don't see the drive.

I have managed to detect it using MHDD however:

Unfortunately, I have been unable to unlock the drive using the default Samsung Master password (which I believe is 32 't's), or erase it using MHDD.

Can anyone assist me to unlock this drive please?

Thanks for that info! How much would you charge to do the unlock?

I tried using SHT, but I'm getting a 'Run-time error 9. Subscript out of range' error when running a PCI Bus Scan or anything under the 'Settings menu', and there doesn't seem to be much info on this error on the Internet. Have you seen it before?

Hi Spildit,

I was using Win10 x64, but based on your advice I have reinstalled the machine with Win7 x32. And yes, I installed the TVICPort driver as per your post here.

However, I'm still getting the run-time error.

If you have any more ideas I'm keen to hear them. I'm happy to donate something for your time even if you don't remote in, but if you think it's easier to just jump in and take a look, then let me know and we'll do that.

Ok, WDR didn't work on that machine, but I've fired up a THIRD machine (Win XP) and while SHT doesn't seem to find any drives, WDR does, so I think we might have liftoff!!

I'll PM you to discuss times etc to remote in.

imperfections:
I tested on M7S2, M8E(BP2), HD203WI,HD322GJ
the script does not check the password, it works out anyway

IT DID WORK !!!!

This script has some flaws (I wrote it in 3 hours).it can be extended to work with models and without a profile (although such models work zu)

Wouldn't it be easier to write new profile by ATA ?

easier. but I have made through the terminal. (work terminal sometimes useful when the disc is not visible in the interface.)

I'm recently facing a quite identical problem with a HDD HD204UI password - would it be appropriate to jump in right here on this thread , or will it be more helpfull to start a new thread ?

I'd like to maybe share some basic details, to determine if the HDD could be safed or if it's broken completely. To do so, I'd like to share some jpgs of what I could examine so far (using SHT, Victoria) as soon as you guys let me know where to share them properly...
