I have a 1TB WD10JPVX that spins up but is not recognized by the OS. I thought the board might be bad so I bought a replacement board from ebay. replacing the board I have the same problem, it still is not recognized.

1) Any suggestions on further diagnosing it?

2) I have been searching all over for schematics for the board. Any suggestions as to where I could find those, if they even exist?

Thanks,
Norm

Thanks for the advice. It does not spin down. It does have valuable data on it.

I will most likely send this one off because the data is so valuable to my client.

So where online can I find schematics for logicboards?

Pretty much anything logicboard related I can handle in my shop. We do microsoldering on iPhones and iPads all the time. Expanding into Hard Drives is something I have been wanting to do but lacking a good source of documentation makes it very difficult.

Thanks,
Norm

It's 99.9% nothing to do with the PCB, almost certainly firmware corruption as spildit has already told you.

As said above, there is pretty much zero chance it's related to the PCB. Most likely bad sectors that require some firmware tweaks to get it up and running and then a hardware imager to extract the data. Not much you can do. If it's not yours I'd send it to a DR shop instead.

We're WD Partners & are thus authorized for data recovery and warranty replacement of your drive. Our evaluation is free, and we'll be happy to diagnose the problem.

If you like, PM me with your e-mail address and I'll send you a UPS shipping label to our lab (we're located in Georgia).

I get that. I'm not asking for this particular drive anymore, just in general. Thanks for the advice.
