Hello to everyone.
I have a problem with my ST2000DM001. Let me explain you what happened.
Yesterday when I came back from school I turn on my PC, everything booted fine, then I went to lunch, then when I get back to my room I get asleep in my bed (while my PC was still on), later (about 2 to 3 hours) when I wake up, I notice that my PC rebooted and is unable to boot the OS, so i started to do some tests, check if it was the sata cables or the power cables, after that I realize that the problem should be coming from the HDD, so I proceed to boot a live CD with "partedmagic" after that, I execute GSmartControl to look the SMART info from the disk but it shows me this:

Code:
=== START OF INFORMATION SECTION ===
Device Model:     ST2000DM001
LU WWN Device Id: 5 000c50 064d8b903
Firmware Version: CC27
User Capacity:    137,438,952,960 bytes [137 GB]
Sector Size:      512 bytes logical/physical
Rotation Rate:    7200 rpm
Device is:        Not in smartctl database [for details use: -P showall]
ATA Version is:   ATA8-ACS T13/1699-D revision 4
SATA Version is:  SATA 3.0, 6.0 Gb/s
Local Time is:    Sat Feb 18 14:00:20 2017 UTC
SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability.
SMART support is: Enabled

Read SMART Data failed: scsi error aborted command

=== START OF READ SMART DATA SECTION ===
SMART overall-health self-assessment test result: UNKNOWN!
SMART Status, Attributes and Thresholds cannot be read.

Read SMART Log Directory failed: scsi error aborted command

Read SMART Error Log failed: scsi error aborted command

Read SMART Self-test Log failed: scsi error aborted command

Selective Self-tests/Logging not supported

So here is the odd part, for some reason it shows that it's an 137GB HDD (the bios also recognise it as an 137GB HDD) but in reality it is an 2TB HDD, also I tried to use seatools but instead of showing the normal capacity (or the 137GB) it shows that is an 4.1GB HDD, so I don't know if my HDD is dead or almost dead since it can spin and the bios,"partedmagic" and even seatools are able to read the model number and everything else except for the actual size of the HDD and its data.

So I will like to know if there is a way to recover my data, what I should do?

Also need to know that the HDD was working in an AHCI mode

And thanks in advance you for your help (and sorry if i have any misspellings, since English is not my first language)

hello, I managed my way to only hear my HDD and it seems like it starts to spin but after some clicking, it spins down.
Does it means that there is no way to recover my data?

Also I attach a sound file of the clicking

Heads are bad for sure, and quite possibly media damage too.

Maybe recoverable, but not DIY :-(

Thank you for your response

So there is nothing I can do?

And also i have another question, this seagate HDD was used as a replacement for an older HDD (a WD10EVVS-63M5B0, green power), the main reason to replace it was because the SMART data of the WD HDD started to show problems with disk surface and bad sectors, certainly this was about 3 years ago.

So the WD HDD could be still functional after all this years?

And if that's so, would you recomend me to use it again?, Or what would you recomend me to do?

If it has bad sectors and/or SMART errors, it's time to throw it away and replace it.

As to the Seagate, no way it's a DIY case. Not even a small chance. Professionals with professional tools struggle to get drives in condition like yours to read data.

Ok, thank you so much you for your help.

And about the WD HDD I think i didn't explain it well.
What I mean, is that 3 years ago the data from the WD HDD was copied into the seagate HDD, so I know that in order to recover the data from 3 years ago to now, I will need to send the seagate HDD to a laboratory, but I was wondering if the data that's contained in the WD HDD can be copied again to another HDD

Yes, the data in the WD hdd probably can be copied. But you need to test, because during those 3 years the disk can have suffered some shock or something.
