Various Toshiba MQ0ADBXXX in read only mode.

March 18th, 2017, 16:36

Hi all.

Last days i posted in sediv forum about Toshiba MQ0ADB series that won't write after head cut. Thinking about incorrect procedure of depoting bad head i restored drive to original state and confirmed that hdd won't write even in original state.

Yesterday i received two more toshiba MQ0ADB100 series in same situation: you can read with sediv, victoria or hddscan, but can not write to any lba position on disk. Also tried security erase with sediv but got "hdd is not ready to receive data" error...

Of course, all this external usb hdds are reporting g-sense shock counter events, so is highly probable that drops has affected heads or any other thing.

My questions ares:

1-) Is this a common failure in this brand of hdds?
2-) Exist any way to fix this issue using sediv?

thanks in advance,
Oleg.

I believe it is likely a weak/bad head.

IIUC its for refurbish purposes and the data on it isn't needed, then this one you'll have to bin

Data is not important, only for refurbish or repair.

Damaged head is posible, but i have probed to cut heads one by one and the problem is the same for all heads, so if this is the cause then all heads are bad....

It is fairly common to be able to read but not write.
